Hi Ladies- I posted this under the Sept thread too. I realized today that I don't know what I am giving birth in. If all goes as planned I will be doing a home birth (most likely in Aug because I have been dilating already and am on bedrest until the 22nd when I am 37 weeks). I want to wear something that I can easily and quickly do skin to skin in and to BF in. I also want something that I will be comfortable walking around the house in. Would LOVE to hear what others plan to be in and any thoughts from anyone who has done a home birth before.

For my homebirth with my daughter I was just planning to be nude, tbh. I sleep in the nude most of the time anyway and figured I'd want to be naked while labouring. I have heard other homebirth mamas wear sports bras that are easy up/down, or use their belly bands (the stretchy ones?) as tube tops that go up and down. This time around since I have to be in the hospital I figure I'll do that and use it as a tube I can just pull up or easily cut off if needed.

Probably nothing. If anything it'll be an old night shirt or even hospital gown, which will probably then come off in transition. Depends on how long I am there (in hospital) and how warm it is that day/night.

I'm hoping to do most of my laboring at home & want to get a comfy, pretty nursing nightgown.

Probably the ugly old hospital gown.

I'll be in a hospital so I'll be in their gowns, but I would suggest that to you too just because they are comfy to me, and they open in the front really easily with the snaps at the front of the shoulder you can order pretty one's online if you care what it looks like

I homebirthed 3 weeks ago and wore a beach cover up which was really just a black t-shirt dress and a black tube top
underneath. I took the t-shirt off when I got in the birthing pool. black was a good choice.

I've had 3 home births. For each, I planned what I was going to wear...and when I was in labor, that went right out the window. I labored in whatever I was wearing at the time and then with 2 of them, ended up stripping my clothing off totally because I was too hot.

I would be sure to choose something that's soft and comfy and NOT restricting in any way. It should also be something that won't be ruined if it gets wet/dirty/bloody. With my last one, my water broke when I way lying on my bed, but I managed to get down on the floor area we'd prepared and didn't make a mess at all. Well, until I reached that prepared area that was covered with towels, a shower curtain and chux pads. My pants were wet understandably, but somehow my tank top and cardigan were also wet!

If you're planning to use a tub, you could wear a sports bra or bikini top if you feel better covered like that.

You might want to pick something nice (but not so nice you're afraid to get blood on it) for after the birth. I always got into the shower and then dressed in a night gown and hung out on my bed.

Good luck! I hope you have a lovely birth!

wear what you feel comfy in (or if you like, be naked)....I just have one piece of advice. Go with black or another dark color. You are welcome.

I'll be wearing a hospital gown - they're comfy and when it gets covered in blood, I'll just leave it behind for them to deal with.

I bought a gown by petal pushers, it was disposable, low back for epidural access, halter style, breastfeeding access slits like a hospital gown, made the after birth pictures much much nicer! I got it in black off of Amazon, they have prints and other colors too!

If I were birthing at home, I'd go naked. I prefer to be naked whenever possible. :P

Since I'm going to be in the hospital, I'm planning to buy a housecoat-style nightgown that buttons up the front. I've done that before, and it was really convenient, but I threw it away because I thought we were done having kids and it was ugly. :P

I'm also planning to wear a pair of boxer shorts. I wear them all the time around the house because they are cheap and comfortable, and I want some kind of pants just to remind the hospital staff that my vagina is not all-access, LOL. I don't know if I'll change them after my water breaks, or just ditch them completely at that point.

After the baby is born, I plan to wear boxer shorts and nursing tanks while laying around in the hospital.
