Hi! My name is Kerri and I'm a 34 year old wife and mom to a 2 year old boy. I'm 5'3" and currently 123ish pounds. I haven't weighed in a week or so.
I have done every diet you could possibly think of at one time or another. I lost down to my smallest weight of 117# from about 145# before I got pregnant with my son. During my pregnancy I was a huge and I mean HUGE sweet addict. Didn't really gain a ton of weight during pregnancy only because I had him 10 weeks early. I was probably about 135 when I had him. I done another diet and got down to 128# and stayed there for 2 years pretty much. I tried so many diets and even went vegan for a while to try to cure my cholesterol problem...ended up being my genes.
For the past year or so I done weight watchers on my own and then I found the Itrackbites app which is WW for free. It did great but I stayed around 127# no matter what. I liked fruit and hey it was free and I also could move my points around where I was still eating pretty crappy. Then in June of this past year everything went crazy!
I started getting massive headaches and lost vision in one eye and ended up being diagnosed with Optic neuritis. I've been poked and prodded since then and they still don't know what caused it. Vision has came back for the most part. The headaches though just kept on. Think we have it pinned pointed to hormones now. But before that I had some dental issues come up and ended up eating a keto type diet by pure accident. Turns out my headaches went away but I didn't put 2 and 2 together my husband actually did after I had already went back to a WW diet. So, we decided it was worth a try to see and once again the headaches went away. From then on I have been off and on keto with neurologist changing his mind back and forth. I decided to stay the course of keto and have been strict for 2 months tomorrow. I did get off birth control just to see if that helps too bc I do still have break through migraines from time to time always around shark week..

Okay, so that's the whole story of me and how I came to keto. Oh and I've gotten down to 123# and have been between 122# and 125# since keto. I hope to get to know all of you and thanks for letting me join in!

Hi Kerri! I'm doing Whole30, which is sort of similar to a keto diet, but restricts specific types of food. I end up eating more protein and fats than ever and way less sugar. Hopefully we can help each other out! Looking forward to your next post :)

Hi Kerri! My sister has had optic neuritis twice. Scary stuff! Hers was caused by an autoimmune disorder. I hope you never have to go through that again! Good luck on your journey to better health and lesser to no migraines!

Thank you so much! Yes it's absolutely no fun. They have checked me for EVERYTHING and the only thing that came back abnormal was my spinal tap but it didn't lead to anything so who knows. I ended up with it twice also and don't want to ever do that again.

I do keto for migraine control (15 months now) and it's magical for me...my migraine triggers stopped impacting me around 100 days into it, so hang in there and with any luck the headaches will stop completely within the next couple months!!!

Tiffany I'm so glad to hear there is someone else who knows what I'm going through. Today is day 60 so I don't have too far to go. Thank you so much for letting me know all that! I do know an hour or so after I do eat csrbs, before I got strict, the headaches were rough and I would get so sick to my stomach. I love keto foods too! Glad to hear it worked for you!

Yesterday was a good day. I definitely got all my steps in. I've been trying to keep my house cleaned up since we will have a ton of people over Saturday for my son's birthday party. It was supposed to be last weekend but we had a death in the family and then he came down with a stomach bug. The boy keeps me on my toes. I wish I had more time to exercise but I guess I get enough for now chasing him around. He has speech 2 days a week also so I stay on the go. I'm trying to focus on drinking more today. I got to thinking yesterday and I had only had a few sips of water, half a Powerade zero, and a coffee. I got to do better than that. I was just so busy I didn't think about it.

Migraines are awful. Mine got worse the older I got and at their peak I was having them 5 days a week. You are definitely not alone!

Wow that's awful! During my optic neuritis and before keto I had them all day every day for 3mo. Something had to give and luckily the neuritis eased up and then keto was a huge help. Now they are a few days before shark week until a few days afterwards. I do go see my doctor at the end of the month to talk about other types of birth control to maybe help too. Hopefully by the 100 day mark it won't matter and they will be gone for good.

Tiffany, so I have a question for you. To fix your migraines, did you do a certain keto? I mean there are soooo many different variations. Some say meet fat goal and some say meet protein goal and not worry about a lot of fat. When I first started all I saw was the fat one and so I was eating that way but now I'm seeing so much more on protein being the target. It gets confusing. I'm having a hard time getting protein in and I'm still pretty high on fats. How did you set your macro precentages?

Tiffany I'd also like to know what your macro percentages are! I don't know how to set them for Whole30, but I think going the keto route might help. I intend to keep up the lifestyle after and only reintroduce foods on special occasions. Also I think I'll eat peanut butter again lol.

Kerri, great job getting your steps! If you want to drink more water, I'd suggest flavoring it if you like sports drinks. I started out with having lemon or lime in my water all the time.

Megan, that's a thought! I've done a crystal light 3 times today. It's probably not the best of choices but I drank some water at least. I scanned it on my carb manager app just to make sure there were no hidden carbs. Sometimes MFP will say zero carbs when in reality they have like 1 here and there. If I'm ever unsure I always check on there but would rather log with MFP. Maybe I can try to cut those back and do some flavored like that. Thanks for the advice!

Today has been great! I got some more cleaning done, we went to speech, and then we played and watched a movie in his (Tucker's) play room.

I got in 3 bottles of flavored water, half a 32oz Powerade zero and 2 large cups of coffee. That's a lot for me! My bladder is the size of a pea. I can drink a few sips and I'm running to the ladies room. Like it's terrible. Trips on vacation are a nightmare when I've had zero to drink on purpose.

I've started the quest with Kayla for getting steps. I'm going to start at 3500 and work my way up to 12000 by March 4! I'm really excited about this. I got in 10,543 as of now and the day isn't over yet so day 1 is done!

I would love to eventually start losing some weight again. I've been stuck here fo many weeks now. I'm always way below carbs and below calories too. I have it set for a 500 deficit. I don't have time to do much exercise at the moment. We are up at 4-5am and I don't sit again until 6pm except for long enough to eat. Like I'm seriously on the go and by 6pm I'm exhausted and ready for bed. Maybe things will calm down soon.

I started keto with a 2:1 ratio (2g fat: 1g protein + carbs) because my research indicated that was the best for migraine control. It was very hard to get enough fat, plus it doesn't leave much room for protein and I lift weights so I was having issues with recovery and injury and I'm pretty sure it all revolved around not enough protein even with amino acid supplements and low carb protein shakes. I think that only lasted like a month or two. Then I switched to a 1:1 ratio, which was better, but still really hard to eat and keep on target. I now had a bit more protein, so I stopped having as many issues with my lifting, but still just really tough to find food with the right macro balance. I think that may have lasted 2 or 3 months. After that I started just tracking carbs and keep them low, and increasing protein to what I considered more normal (around 100g), and not worrying about fat at all, just letting it fall where it may. So far migraines stay gone. I can even have a few super carby days and not start having migraines, but after about 5 days they will come back. I haven't tested that in a while I actually kept keto over the holidays, so it was probably last summer for vacation I was last off keto for any length of time.

In epileptic children the neuroprotective benefits are permanent after 2 year...they can switch to a standard low carb diet without a return of symptoms. No one has studied the permanence in adults that I have been able to find. So that's my goal, 2 years, then try increasing carbs to around and see what happens. I will reach that mark 9/29 this year...I'm really looking forward to it...not because I'm dying to have carbs, but because I have the attention span of a 5 year old...2 years is a long goal for me and I think the sense of accomplishment will be immense!

    Current macros are:
    prxo9wj84igk.png

I really find this version of keto pretty easy, and I have been trying to be more carnivore to get all the stupid protein in this month, but I generally adjust my workout routine every month, and the changes to that will drive the changes to my food goals, so this may all look completely different in another 3 weeks. My diary is always open if you want to browse around. I usually track, but there were a lot of days I missed tracking over the holidays.

@tcunbeliever thank you so much for all that information! I can't wait for you to reach your 2 year mark to just see what happens. That is a HUGE accomplishment! I may check out your diary off and on just to kinda get an idea. You are so full of knowledge and I'm so glad to have been able to connect with you!

Today was a pretty busy day. I had an eye appointment and a hair cut today. The eye appointment was to check my vision after the optic neuritis. She actually lowered my prescription. I thought she was crazy bc I can definitely tell a big difference in one eye but apparently that's just the aftermath of the episode and may never come back. The haircut...well I got it all chopped off in the middle of winter. I always do that to short in winter and long in summer. 🤷 I'm a mess.

I didn't get the water in that I wanted to. I was on the go so much and forgot and plus it's hard to be on the go and needing to go, especially with a toddler. Maybe tomorrow!

I did get my steps in though. Today's goal was 3600 and as of now I'm at 8329.

Tomorrow is Tucker's birthday party so I'm sure it will be busy. Hopefully I can get my water in!

Today was super busy but the birthday party was a success! Tucker got lots of things and we had a huge turnout.

I was short on water. In fact I had none that I can think of. I did have a 32oz Powerade zero tho. Maybe tomorrow will be better for water. I just didn't take time to stop and drink.

I was able to stay on track with calories and keto even during the birthday party. I had so keto options and stayed away from chips and cake. Had some trusty pork skins for my dip. I made a veggie tray too which fit perfectly.

Today should have been 3700 steps and I got 7792 as of now. So far still going strong on steps.

Tomorrow will be trying to get my house put back together from all the kids playing and toys everywhere!

So I was able to get my house put back together thank goodness! My parents came over for leftovers for lunch and then my in laws came for a visit after that. Tucker was fired up and ready to play. He was in a very very good, happy mood ALL day. 😲 We ran some errands after lunch. It was all in all a good day.

I got in a couple waters today.

Today's steps goal was 3800 and I got 8229 as of now.

Back to the normal week tomorrow!

Today was a struggle to get through. Tucker woke up at 10pm last night and stayed awake until after 2 am. This momma is TIRED! I got a little more house work done today and tons of laundry. We also made a trip to the grocery store for the week.

I got in 2 waters today shockingly.

Today's step goal was 3900 and I got in 9713 as of now.

Hopefully the dream fairy sprinkles sleep dust all over my baby tonight and he sleeps.

Tucker slept much better last night. He woke up twice but went back down pretty quickly.

I got 3 bottles of water drank today and some Powerade zero.

Today's step goal was 4000 and I got 7744 as of now.

I started a migraine journal today. I'm going to write down how much sleep I get, how I feel when I wake up, what all I eat and at what times and how I feel afterwards. Going to see if something may be triggering these headaches or if they are still associated with just homones alone. I also decreased my calorie deficit from 500 to 200. I still ate under the original calorie goal today but I was stuffed.

I also think I'm coming down with a cold too. Could be a sinus pressure type headaches this time? I dunno, but my right lymph node is swollen, my throat is sore, and my right ear hurts so I have something going on. Plus I just feel blah.

You're doing great on steps and water! Definitely drink more water if you feel like you're coming down with something. That's super important. I think your migraine journal is a good idea. I hope you find some answers.

I feel much better today even though I was up all night back and forth with my son. My throat and ears were back to normal this morning but I did wake up with a busting headache. They are always worse when I don't get much sleep. I'm still keeping up with my migraine journal but I think I was low on magnesium. I tried to go back to my original eye prescription first with no success. Then I made sure to eat breakfast with still nothing. I drank my salty drink and that didn't help. It then got to where it was a little better if I sat for a little bit but then would be terrible when I got up so I checked my blood pressure and it was 109/74. Finally I took some magnesium and a few minutes later the headache was gone. I really wish I would have tried that sooner. I wish I could tell when I was starting to get low on something too before it gets to this point. Gah. My head is starting hurt again this evening but it's kinda dull.

I got in 3 waters today. I wanted to get more but I had a dentist appointment and didn't need to be needing to go in the chair 😉.

Today's step goal was 4100 and I got 5943. This is probably the lowest I've had in a while, but my head was bad this morning and I only got relief while sitting.

Megbeveridge93, thank you and I will keep that water thought for next time!

I hope I can get all this figured out sometime or another.

Today was much better. Still had headaches off and on but they weren't bad and after a little salt each time they improved. I hit 6,000 on sodium today but still don't really know what my goal needs to be.

We had speech today and my son just keeps meeting goals left and right 😀.

I got in 4 waters and some Powerade today.

Today's step goal is 4200 and I got in 8595 as of now.

Last night was another rough night with Tucker not wanting to sleep. The last week he has woken up at 9pm and stayed up until 12am. EVERY single night. Ugh! Hopefully this too shall pass soon 🙏

Today was a good day. Headaches was very mild to almost non existent. Maybe I'm getting to a good combination of everything.

I had 4 bottles of water, coffee, diet drink, and coffee today.

Steps goal for the day was 4300 and I have 12134 as of now. I walked the house, went to the mall shopping, and to the grocery store.

Hope the night goes good again tonight. He was only wake for an hour last night instead of 3.

I was headache free all day today!!!! Guess I was just really really low on sodium. Today was kinda lazy. We got a few things done but nothing much. It was too stormy to get out and do anything.

I got in 4 bottles of water, Powerade, coffee, and soda today.

Eating was pretty decent today and I didn't feel like I was going to eat the entire kitchen including the sink.

Today's steps goal was 4400 and I got in 6567 as of now.

I started a 31 day squat, lunge, and push ups challenge today. The challenge is on day 5 so I doubled up today and will for the next few days until I'm on track. It doesn't seem to bad now but I'm sure it will get worse as it goes.

Last night was a total disaster again with Tucker's sleep. I didn't even get to try to go to sleep until around 2am. This momma doesn't function too good on no sleep.

We had a great day today! We went to my parents house to eat for lunch and they kept Tucker while we ran a few errands so we didn't have to get him out in the cold. We didn't have a great night last night. He woke up with a tummy ache and teething both. He ended up taking 2 naps today which nhe hasn't done in probably a year. His first one was at 8am so he would have never made it until bedtime.

I got in several waters today. I didn't keep count today.

I stayed in calories somehow today being it was the start of shark week and I wanted to eat everything!

Today's step goals was 4500 and I got in 8321 as of now. I done another 2 days worth of workout for the 31 day challenge today also.

My husband is off tomorrow for the holiday so it will be an extended weekend around here.
