Healthier Tex mex options

We know tex mex isn't healthy over all. It tastes too good to worry about it, but that said do you know of any resturants that seem healthier than other without skimping on the flavor too much. My hidden gym isn't even in San Antonio its in universal city of all places. It is called Patio. Everything is scratch, the refried beans are not technically refried but still taste pretty good. The spanish rice is made with brown rice and you can even sub the rice or beans for a cup of tortilla soup. I am not 100 percent on this but most shells are baked not fried, I know atleast the tortilla strips are baked. It isn't the winner of best taste in San Antonio, but it beats most of the touristy river walk places hands down. Considering the healthier preparations of sauces and sides it tastes great, and is pretty high on my list for consistently great quality. Service is great and price is fair. They also have well priced huge plates and allow couples sharing without an up charge. Kids meals have options for fresh fruit for the sides. My daughter love that they get waterMellon with their bean and cheese tacos. I would call it Gringo friendly texmex, but no way in a bad way. Just very safe and well executed dishes with plenty of options. With many enchilada sauces to choose from even a vegetarian sauce it is sure to please, and the Puffy tacos are some of the best in town.

I manage to eat dinner at Taqueria Datapoint in the Medical Center several times a week and stay within my calories.
Just get a taco or two! Meat, cilantro, onions, tortilla. Sometimes I won't even eat the tortilla if I want to eat a bunch of chips and salsa - don't see the sense in eating that much tortilla/carbs. I guess I just favor the meat/veggies over the beans and rice most days.
Chipotle can also be healthy/low calorie if done right. Not sure if it's taboo to mention it, but I think it's pretty tasty for a chain.0 -
If only Tex-Mex was healthy! Sigh...0
