I'm in Orlando for another race series, this time 5k, 10k, half marathon. The 5k on Friday was an adventure. Just as it was supposed to start (5:30 am), they announced severe weather was expected and that the race was delayed. With several thousand people standing outdoors and thunderstorms expected, I wondered what they would do. Disney's solution was to put us on buses until the threat of lightening passed. Two hours later, I figured they would cancel the race, but instead they instructed us to get out of the bus and just follow the lead cyclist. No official start, no fireworks. They also cut the course short so the 5k ended up being 2.2 miles. It was still raining and we were all soaked at the end, but as far as I know everyone was safe. Today's 10k was much less eventful! I'm at 15/75

@k80flec: You exemplify exactly why I love about the sport of running. Thanks for helping a runner in distress.
@Janet:You always seem to get hit with the whackiest race starts. I don’t know if I could sit on a bus for two hours waiting for a race. You sure have patience girl.
@Anaconda469: Happy Birthday! I hope it was a good one for you!

Half marathon done, slowly but surely. It was very humid and warm and we were warned to go slow, so I decided to listen for once. Ran a 14 minute pace - practically walking, but no heat stroke and no injuries so all good. Afterwards we went to Epcot for lunch and walked and walked in the 92F heat. I've got 47k steps today - almost a full marathon! I should sleep well tonight.
@clepant - they weren't giving us a choice about waiting 2 hours. They didn't want us leaving the bus during the lightening storm. When they finally released us we could have gone home but we decided we might as well run having waited so long.
@lovemyalex - sorry I missed your update. You should be caught up now.
Hope you all had a great weekend!1 -
