My favorite new concept, which has led to better successes:
Contingency Plans
Many of us analyze & set up plans for our weight loss/exercise/maintenance/
other life goals or habits
But, many of us don’t go one step further to think about what our “contingency plan” will be if life gets in the way one day...
So, now, when I make my daily habits, I actively think about what could interfere with them. And decide if I can create a plan to avoid that risk.
And if I can’t do that, I make a plan for what I’ll do if I can’t avoid it.
Example 1 **** Avoiding the Risk Contingency Plan:
I often let myself get too hungry on the days when I have a morning & afternoon engagement, and then I go eat a too large, early dinner at a restaurant.
Now, I have placed a container of healthy items that do not require refrigeration in my car & in my backpack.
On days I know I will need more, I’m bringing my cold pack bag (that I keep packed in fridge so I can just add the ice pack and GO!) Cheese sticks, baby carrots, cleaned radishes, Apple/mandarins...
Example 2 **** Contingency Plan for when it can’t happen
Muscles too sore to hike hills and/or lift weights
I will still take my 60 min walk in flat, getting a min. Steps of 10K
I will do arm stretches.
I will “roller” my quads.
I will postpone the heavier exercise until the next day.
Having clear Contingency Plans may well be the Secret to our Successes❣️
I’d like be to hear what you do to insure your success!
Happy Mother’s Day!8 -

Hi all x 3xyes today but it was a close call totally mismanaged my food and have left myself poorly fed today. nearly left the path but held on through sheer frustration. 20 mins step. tracked everything and eat a little into my exercise calories for the first time. still an overall deficit of about 200. best wishes all.6

Yes x 3. 90 mins yoga and walking.

Not sure how tomorrow will be... mother's day is typically my kids giving me breakfast in bed and a day at the local winery with tons of goodies. It's raining this year so we're doing a crab feast instead. Enjoy all!5 -
I am getting lost about what days I have / haven't reported in detail here...
I DO know that I have had only 1 Pass Day so far this month and I DID document it here, and all the rest have been 3 x yes. Yesterday I did an extra-long bike ride just to be SURE it was going to be a "3 X yes" day.
I will do a later report to confirm, but given the uneaten regular calories ... so long as I put in the 20 minutes intentional exercise - today is gonna be a 3 x Yes day too.7 -
May 10th and 11th Yes 3xs
Been out of town and had a contingency plan!7 -

Exercised: 20K steps (including my first continuous run of 5K this season!) Not sure I'll be able to maintain that for my actual race, since it's in two weeks and will probably be a lot warmer and more humid, but I'm planning to try! (With contingency plans so that I can easily switch to run/walk intervals if necessary.)

Great advice, @MadisonMolly2017! I feel like I'm more flexible this year about having a plan but being able to adjust the plan when life happens.6 -

Lazy Saturday. Not much flying due to cold weather and occasional showered. Managed to pick a gap to get a walk in.
Mothers day tomorrow. Visiting wifes mother for lunch 2hrs drive away.

Exercise: 40” walk. It was much slower than usual (3 mph) but since I was wearing a knee brace and being cautious with the knee, I’m calling it a win! Also did cleaning, laundry and sorting for packing for upcoming trip.

Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 1 hour walk (with DH & Annie) and 1 hour low impact aerobics. Had to do extra exercise to compensate for the homemade strawberry rhubarb pie I made today. It was good pie...but my muscles are shaky, now, from the exercises. Included some short workouts for hips & thighs, arms, core, back, chest, cardio etc. from Gilad's videos.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes. It was really a poor nutrition day, though, so I used most all of those exercise calories today.
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes3 -
Yes x 3. Exercise was C25K, Week 3, Day 1.2

Re: Contingency plans, I’m injury prone, so I use a variety of exercise equipment (home or at the gym) so that I can still be active. If I can’t run, maybe I can use the elliptical, but probably I can row or cycle. If all else fails I can exercise in the pool.2
