Leg workouts?

Do cyclists typically do "leg workouts" other than just riding? If so, what types of exercises do you do? I'm pretty new to riding, just started within the last couple months but I've already noticed some muscle definition forming in my legs without even doing any strength exercises...just from riding and walking. I'm just wondering though if there's anything specific I should be doing to increase my riding performance. TIA!

I'm a weight lifer first, mountain biker second. I do a modified version of Strong Lifts, so deadlifts and squat. I don't think many people can argue with deadlifts and squats.

As a cyclist, I don't tend to do weight training during April to October/November. At those times I stick to the roads. If I had time during the season, I would love to do a weight session and cycle, but time constraints mean that I cannot.

When it comes to the off season, I will be undertaking 2-3 weekly sessions in the gym, trying to get a balance of legs and "the rest of the body" which doesn't get attention on the bike.

The biggest thing that I have learned since losing weight and starting cycling is to make sure I do toning exercises for my stomach and incorporate core work. I am a big advocate of core stability, I do 2-3 times per week core work as per this post:
