Challenge Description: The November Great American Smokeout challenge is not just for smokers. Everyone can participate. There will be activities and resources for both smokers and non-smokers to provide education on the risks of smoking as well as tips for quitting successfully. Participants are encouraged to complete 1 qualifying Great American Smokeout activity per week for a total of 4 entries in the tracker dashboard during the month of November. Overcoming tobacco is both mental and physical. The best way to quit will be a combination of changes to lifestyle and support.

Challenge Goal: Starting November 1, complete 4 qualifying Smoking Awareness activities during the month of November and make an entry for each activity in the tracker’s wellness area. CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT ACTIVITY


Award for meeting goal: Reach the challenge goal and receive the Smoke Out Badge


Qualifying Activities:

1.Talk to a smoker about benefits of quitting smoking
2.Visit American Cancer Society for resources to help a Smoker Quit – “Helping Smoker- Do’s and Don’ts”) https://www.cancer.org/healthy/stay-away-from-tobacco/helping-a-smoker-quit.html
3.Adopt a quitter/support someone who is trying to quit smoking
4.*Read an article on smoking cessation, managing cravings, tips to help quitters, etc.
5.Replace your smoking habit with gum, water, pickle or suckers
6.Social Media
7.Post your favorite crave buster habit on social media
8.Start a social media group to support your goal to quitting
9.Announce you’re quitting on social media
10.Write out your smoking triggers
11.Write a goodbye letter to cigarettes
12.Create a personal stop smoking reward fund. Collect the cash you would have spent on cigarettes in a jar and use it to reward yourself
13.Go smoke free for 24-hours
14.Wear a rubber band and snap it against your wrist when you want to smoke
15.Visit American Heart Association website and download tips for quitting and more information to help with the quitting process
