Clueless when it comes to protein shakes

Any guidelines i should consider when starting on protein shakes? All i want is to tone/ lean out . Dont wanna bulk up!

Well, I myself for cutting and bulking don't use protein shakes.
They are no different than just eating protein from any food source. It's just useful if you can't hit your protein target from food. I get all my 150g protein from pure food. Because I prefer to eat my calories than drink them, but it's personal preference.
Usually when buying a protein shake though I just get pure Whey if I ever buy it, so it's very low fat, very low carb and high protein.0 -

I only use if I'm low on protein. Its really not that hard to hit protein goal. 8 oz chicken and a can of baked beans is close to 80 grams. That's half of what I need for the day.0
