Tag a Long

I'm just starting to get back to riding after a very long vacation from it, how ever I have a small tag a long and a older one that is determine to follow me when I head out no matter what I do my dogs will follow me when I head out, Its not that big of a deal right now, since I'm not to the point where I can go very far, but dose anyone else have a tag along that joins you rather you want them to or not, if so what do you do to make sure they stay safe.
