Craigo - I LOVE that you guys have a service dog in training. I have no idea if you are in Melbourne, AUS, or FLA, but as an actual professional pet sitter at this point in my life - here are some diet tips from that adorable pup. http://www.germanshepherdtrainingacademy.com/10-essential-german-shepherd-diet-tips
You may not be in the winner's circle on here - but you, and your entire family, are winners in my book. You are striving for good things in your lives for your daughter and for yourselves. Hats off to you. Best wishes on all of your challenges.
@dsgoingtodoit. Thank you for the tips. I am in Melbourne AUS.
This the first dog in our family. We know we know very little about raising and training dogs and are happy to receive any advice and help we can get.
Austin is fed at least twice a day. He also gets a lot of "treats" during training to sit, stay, drop, bring, crate time, etc...
He has a fantastic nature, both submissive and tolerant. Food driven, which makes training easier, and has already accepted the family members as superiors (authority and protection). In meeting new things he is cautious, but not over-timid. The trainer said he seems to have the perfect temperament for the type of service dog we need. Also starting as a pup from a known breeder, he has no bad habits or emotional baggage to train out, he also has no known genetic problems that could cause issues or shorten the working span.
Took 6 months to find a breed and then find a reputable breeder that had a dog having a litter. This is not a process we rushed into. We knew it was going to take time and effort.5 -

Was stressed due to some work & heat & lack of sleep. Went walking 7:30 PM, arriving home about 8:30, peaceful & happy! BIG hill!2 -
