HELP! My 3 year old has decided he doesn't want to go to the Gym daycare anymore. Grrrrr... I refuse to be held hostage to his tantrums. The first day I took him home and put him to bed and did not get to go to my class. My 5 year old girl was with us that day and after he fell asleep I asked her if there was a problem at the gym. She said he was mad because the girls who work in the gym during the day make him take turns on the computer and he can only play for 15 minutes. We used to go to the gym in the eve and there weren't many kids there then so I guess they let him play a lot more.
That afternoon I talked to him to find out if there was anything else. I sure don't want him being hurt or anything. But he just says "I don't like the gym" I talked to the girls at the gym to see if anything had happened and they didn't have any clues either. So I told him he was going and would just have to deal.
Next day he throws a fit. I carry him in and leave him sitting on the floor and go upstairs and do my workout. Come back down and he is sitting in the corner and the girls say he sat there and cried or pouted the entire hour.
Next day I encourage him to bring some toys - they have a lot there but I though maybe if he brought something from home it would help. he had a fit walking in. Again I left him and went to work out. The girls said he pouted and cried for 15 min. then played.
So it has been two weeks now and this is where we are. he throws a fit walking in and pouts and cries for the first 15 then plays.
I have offered the reward of doing something fun in the afternoons like zoo, children's museum, train museum, etc. If he can go without a fit. He hasn't earned it yet.
The fits are getting smaller - and thank god the gals who work there are helpful and understanding and trying to work with me!!! I am sure hoping I am on the right track here.
Have any of you gone thru this? Any tips, tricks, etc.???

I will be watching this! At first my 5 year old had this issue, then she got comfortable and my 3 year old started. I was literally pealing him off me and running. Talk about feeling bad! Although he comes out of it shorter than 15 minutes. I Did let it keep me from going as often as I'd like. I'm heading back more in the fall, or I'm cancelling the membership. They like to swim, so that is their incentive to be there. swim time after mom's class.
I'll be watching for tips!

Maybe it is just the age of being 3. He is getting better but he still says he doesn't like it there and pouts and whines when I say we are going to the gym. I think the fact that he started preschool a couple of days a week is helping. he is getting better about not being with me for short bursts of time.0

It's been awhile; I didn't respond initially, because I didn't have anything to offer. How's it been? Any improvement?0
