How do you stay sane in crazy world?
Finding balance starts with the intention, belief, and commitment to feeling sane in the world no matter how crazy it seems.
BELIEF. ...
INTENTION. ...
COMMITMENT. ...
WRITE THINGS DOWN. ...
MAKE A DECISION. ...
WALK OUTSIDE. ...
HAVE A GRATITUDE PRACTICE. ...
FORGIVE AND FORGIVE SOME MORE.14 -
There is a new banner-ad at the top of my exercise diary page I had to share:
"COURGAE, aisle 3. Thank you to grocery store workers and production line staff for helping keep Canada fed"
I like seeing Google doodles and money for ad space taken up by this kind of recognition.
Thank you to all front line workers (and those who work on the "back-room front lines") that stock shelves, deliver goods, keep the lights on, and garbage collected, and all those other essential services that we finally realized and acknowledged AS essential.11 -
I stay sane by doing Jiu Jitsu. We all refer to it as our therapy. There is something about that puts everything else in a better perspective. Maybe the fact that I spend time every week defending my life (from my friends in a safe and controlled way). Today was kids and adults again. Plus I did morning run and busy day at work, which included repacking the fish freezer (moving about a ton of fish so the new stock can go on one side). Getting back into training comes with the dreadfully delightful body aches as my muscles adapt to the new routine. I know it is just a period and it means I’m getting stronger so I’ll deal with it.
Ate well today and stayed in budget. When I planned my food I was actually over budget but I was able to adapt during the day to drop it enough. Training helps me stay on track with food and I know I’ll struggle if I don’t fuel my body properly.10 -

Mindfulness/meditation/qigong have helped immensely. Just like physical exercise, it has taken a few solid weeks for me to see any benefit, but it has been 4 months now and I am so glad I stuck with it.

Walking for exercise and walking with the dog and a few extra core exercises
A lot of craziness in this world and in my life. My family and dog make a big difference in staying sane. One thing that helps me is an app called ThinkUp. I have a list of daily affirmations/miniprayers/lifestyle reminders that help to keep me grounded. Ideally it is supposed to be just daily affirmations but I have made it into something more. It probably takes me a half hour to go through my entire list and I listen to it while I take my morning walk, or drive to work or clean etc. I don't have to do the entire list all at once but can listen to bits and pieces. It helps to center me. I have also discovered meditation over the past couple of months too.5 -

Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? YES | Base + 368

**49 minutes of actual work. My mom called during Set 2 of 5 and we had a 9 min convo. So, it really took me 58 min, I suppose.
Also, this was the first time doing the KB swings barefoot and no weight gloves. Yay for stability and future callouses on my palms!
As to what keeps me sane? Morning devotions, a decent amount of alone time (especially in loud nature like birds chirping, water gushing, etc), and two cups of coffee.6 -
day 14

- exercise on dayWent for climb today.
More often than not I think that I am too old to be getting stronger.
But I do the same track or segment repetitively. Got that silly gps watch and I turn it on and it tracks me with an uncanny accuracy. Then it uploads all of my times to a database somewhere and I can look at it on a web page. I am sure you have heard of all that.
But I think the word of the day is sanity.
But I am thinking that doing the same track or path day in and day out and expecting a better time is not really the stuff of sanity.
But I been getting better times. I been running in higher gears and my heart doesn't seem to be as loaded at altitude.
Today I think I might have beat all my previous times except I stopped because my phone said it had a text message. It done it twice so I stopped. Ack. Spam!
But I got this weird competitive streak in me. Ain't nobody around to race I race my own dang self. I don't know if that is weird or not.
My exercise helps with the sanity thing, heh, provided that my exercise itself is not the stuff of insanity.
That can't be.
I got within a few feet of a Golden Eagle today. Well it actually got within a few feet of me. I don't know what she was doing. Must have had something on the ground nearby that she was working on. Startled her I guess. I didn't stop. Neither did she.
I see a hawk all the time. Seen that and thought "that sure is big for a hawk."
Not a hawk. Eagle.
But I got that funny little boy every other day or so. He is always going to be a little boy. That is alright. As long as I got any wherewithal in me he's going to be a happy boy.
His laughter keeps my dark thoughts at bay.
There is still some good fall color around here at lower elevations. Higher up the wind blew all the leaves off. I had a windy ride today. This pic is from some past season.5 -
