Pass day here6
-
2 yeses and a no exercise, a pass day for me. I however do have an excuse, I spent the morning at two doctors appointments, one my 4 week post-op check. Then I donated blood and they told me not to exercise the rest of the day, so I took the advice. Good news is my post-op check was good and I have been given the ok to return to regular exercise, so after today no excuses. My arm this afternoon:

Why? Extra weight has resulted in physical problems, I'm sure. Severe arthritis in spine and joint problems with knees. It has gotten so bad I am finally considering spinal fusion (2-3 levels)as all other non-surgical interventions have not helped with spinal stenosis, DDD, and spondylolisthesis. Want to lose weight prior to surgery.
Why? Activities I used to enjoy, I have stopped doing due to pain in back. There has been a gradual reduction in my participation over 8 years. So much so I even stopped walking my dogs! Want to get back to do things that I enjoy.
Why? I have lost 45 pounds these past 14 months (now 192#) and now do push myself to be more active, even if it is only doing household chores or taking dogs to the dog park. The weight loss has improved my emotional and physical well being. But I want to stay on track with my weight journey. This challenge keeps me in check to doing something each day!!
Why? Even at age 70, I am vain and want to improve my appearance.
Why? I want to get back to living my best life!!7 -
Yes,I went for a 20 minutes walk, logged all food and was slightly under calories. I am here to get my overeating under control and be healthier!6

Got up extra-early today (Nov 6) so that I could catch up on reading here and still start work early.
I think I am discovering via work what kind of "accountability-format" works and doesn't work for me.
For the "5-or-more Why's" that will be an exercise for the weekend.
This past week, Mon- Tues were weak on the exercise (a beast-level # steps for Wed & Thurs ) and daily weigh ins are showing that even on the non-exercise days the calories were reasonable.
With so much insane work-related long-hour screen-time I have been slack on officially logging/tracking.
So for Nov - I will not sweat the Winner's Circle (still theoretically possible, we'll see ... ) but will concentrate on finding a balance and being a UA Champion.7 -
Exercise: I'm working with the public during the pandemic, and in addition to the regular things I do, I disinfect public areas for hours, plus slow walk for hours, plus occasionally carry heavy boxes of supplies (that's not required at all, but I do it for upper body strength). I make a best guess for exercise and log it.
Calories: yes, under
Tracking: yes, but logged this morning due to exhaustion. I eat the same things every day so I'm not worried about forgetting.
Why am I here?
(1) My health matters. I don't want to take pills (or have a stroke or heart attack) when I can control high blood pressure and cholesterol with exercise and a normal weight.
(2) How I look and feel matters. I reached my goal weight a year ago. This November marks one year of maintenance.
(3) So why am I here? Because I don't trust myself. I'm doing well, but out of sight is out of mind. I need to continue weighing myself and tracking for a while. I have an inner slob who doesn't care, gets busy with other things, and will eat whatever is around.8 -
Exercise: YES (55min Bodypump class on youtube). It was very good!
Calories: YES (but barely made it with night-time peanut snack attack)
Tracked: YES
I'm here because I just turned 55 and not on any pills and all body parts are working but I feel weaker and slower and achy already. My friends and colleagues are already starting to get knee replacements, all kinds of surgeries, gain lots of weight, on new medications, and some unfortunately died rather quickly from different types of cancers. This is Serious Stuff! I am doing this because I am scared of all this, want to avoid/delay it as much as possible!
Plus I want a long healthy and happy life!7 -

Why I'm trying to be intentional about my health and fitness?
I see all around me the effects of overeating and inactivity. If I'm not proactive (lol and active) I will be among them. As we age things change and the struggle is real
Why am I in this challenge?
T he word accountability says it all. Left to our own devices we will most likely give ourself permission to allow excuses (and there are lots!!😳) to derail any progress we might make.
Add to that a great group of people, and great leader (thanks Rick for all you do).

Why? I can’t fight illness and disease if I have even more inflammation due to being overweight and having unhealthy eating habits. I want to be around for my grandchildren in an active and meaningful way, I am 55 and now, for whatever reason, I don’t just want to look good - I want to look darn good.

I really enjoyed reading everyone's comments about their "why". I think we all know how important it is to have a strong WHY.
My WHY: Like so many of you, I too want to live a long, active and full life. I want to be here for many, many years for my kids and grandkids (8 of them) and now great-grandchildren (2 of them this year!) If I don't get control NOW, I truly believe that my physical health will eventually become both an excuse and a barrier for not living a full life. I too have to be proactive and take responsibility for my health NOW.
With each passing year (and each extra lb) my extra weight is having more and more of and impact for me physically. I have osteoarthritis in my knees and babying them is making them weaker, not stronger. This year I've begun noticing that my back is hurting more and that my back muscles are much weaker than they ever were before.
I will turn the big 60 in 6 months, and although I am currently not on any medications (just vitamins), I have begun in the last year or so to feel weaker, slower, and much more achy all over. I have troubles with my knees and the extra weight makes them excruciatingly painful. When I lose weight, amazingly (Lol) my knees feel so much better! I also have high cholesterol and have determined to get it under control without medication. My doc is going to monitor me for a year to see if I can bring it down on my own.
Like someone else said, I'm shocked how many of my friends (my age) are already starting to have all kinds of surgeries (including knee & hip replacements), and are on all kinds of medications. The effects of over-indulging and inactivity are all around me. My own son (almost 40) is a lover of monster drinks and his son (my 16 yo grandson) LOVES all things sugar & has an extremely lethargic lifestyle (video games!). At 16, he is already almost 100 lbs overweight! It saddens and scares me more than I can tell you.
Losing the weight isn't that hard for me - I've lost many times before - and then gain it all back when I get lazy about logging. This time, when I get down to goal weight I will HAVE to begin some kind of maintenance PLAN - because if I fail to plan, then I am planning to fail! Because I too have an inner slob who is a lazy procrastinator who will eat even when she isn't hungry and will eat whatever is available!6 -
My WHY to working out and trying to eat well: I want a mens sana in corpore sano.
In this group/challenge: because I like to write things down and because it's a challenge 😉.

We all have different thoughts and reasons for wanting to be on this journey. Today I want each of us to think about our "WHY". I've read that when we are digging into our WHY, we should ask ourselves that question 5-7 times. In other words, whatever answer we come up with, then we should take it to the next level and ask "WHY" again. You keep asking yourself WHY until you can't get a deeper answer. It's important to really know and feel our WHY in order to be able to better stick with this journey and see it through to the end.
WHY are you on this journey? What is your WHY? Feel free to share as much or as little detail as you like.
@Mrs_Hoffer
This is exactly what I did Jan 1, 2016...and the end result was:
To be as healthy as I possibly can be so I can ACTIVELY enjoy doing things with my husband & our grown son as long as possible.
I have summarized this as: “Health First” which I often mention on my posts.
And, it worked ... I lost weight 75Lbs because my long term goal aka my Big Why was more important to me than any transient food item. The whole trick is getting the long term goal to override the instantaneous unhealthy habits.
Lost the weight. Now, in maintenance, it’s the same Big Why that keeps me motivated & making healthy choices.
As you dig deeply with your why questions, keep going until you feel a Eureka moment...chills & excitement ...it really works.
Thank you!
Maddie
PS I was not healthy 1/1/16. I know what it’s like to be unwell, lack energy, and not have your health. It’s not an abstract concept. Losing and maintaining weight, walking 10K steps a day, and the gift of a new kidney has given me a 2nd chance, and I’m doing Everything I can to be as healthy as possible in order to be as active, for as long as possible, with my Beloveds.9 -

Why? I need accountability and I know that if I track what I eat, I can lose weight. I have 20 pounds to lose and I know I will feel better and have more energy if I do that. Yes, exercise. Yes to tracking but went over in my calorie count.

@Mrs_Hoffer
I'm glad you did!
BTW: I spend an average of an hour a day on the UAC and relationship time with team members. This is where I am a friend to others.
I'm happy to accept your friend request, but I don't anything very friendly in that other venue.
