Feel free to celebrate anything that’s going well for you - other than the scale!!!
Feeling stronger?
Doing tasks you used to postpone?
Sleeping longer? Better?
Developing a hobby - new or old?
Prepping foods?
Energy levels?

Two days ago I would have said my best NSV was not indulging in the multiple gallons of ice cream and pounds of chips that my husband brought home for over a month. Then Sat. I dug into the ice cream and again on Sunday. Not sure what was going on there but...the love affair is over again. I can say I have stayed away from the chips for over a month. It's been easy because I made the decision and refused to second guess it. Well, not easy, but easier.
I'm actually working out a little every day thanks to my 3 minute think session on my exercise equipment. A little is a lot more than it has been recently. I don't know why I slacked off so much but I feel like I've cut the resistance down a lot. I don't like anyone telling me what to do, myself included! I respond much better to gentle pressure and lighter demands.
AND I'm spending so much more time creating and learning new things right now. My iPad game time is way down. If I watch TV (netflix or news) I knit instead of play games. Little changes but feel like victories to me:)2 -

@nebslp
I finally vanquished the ice cream after 2-3 times a month. Had to finally admit that I just don’t feel good when I eat it & it has 6-7 ingredients that have been proven to be bad for Crohn’s patients. So, we’re not buying it any longer.
Great that you’re working out. I am exactly the same as you: I do best with some freedom, gentle approach. That’s why I gave myself 3 YEARS to lose my weight. I knew it would take awhile to really change my habits. Also, I had a saying I used to use a lot: “The Past is passed.” Basically, I let go of the fact I’d been overweight, or ate too much, or unhealthily, or didn’t e revise, or jet myself get too stressed, or didn’t sleep enough...We have THIS moment. The Past is passed.”
Creating & learning make me happy!2 -

My increased appetite disappeared the past couple of days... I couldn’t figure out why. A thought from the past popped into my head: check your carbs...
Yep, carbs down the past 4 days & REALLY down 3 of the 4.
So my non scale victory is NOW I know what to do if my appetite suddenly goes out of whack! Invaluable!4 -
Interesting discussion. Maddie, are you saying that you were hungry because your carbs were up too high?
I tend to get hungry the day after a long run. Usually my appetite is depressed the same day.
As far as Ice cream. I experimented with having "real" ice cream a couple of weeks ago and I think it must be VERY salty as it really made me feel thirsty and I noticed that my night sweats were worse. So I will stick to my "Enlightened" and Halo Top ice cream altho lately it has just been the former. It really satisfies my ice cream addiction totally. Also the Yasso yogurt frozen pops are good for snacks mostly less than 100 cal per.
My Non Scale victory is that I am still NOT WEIGHING at all and feeling quite confident in my body and fitness exactly as they are. I am also extremely wondrous at how much faster I am running. At first I thought maybe the update on my phone has messed with the GPS but I have been consistently able to get mile splits under a 10 minute pace which compared to barely able to hit 11:30 for the first half of the year is crazy improvement. So I am quite proud of these NSVs because I never really thought in a million years I could untether myself from the scale without bouncing.
Sorry I missed this thread earlier but I enjoy it each month so please keep adding it!2 -
@nebslp I love how you are approaching your workouts. Just letting them happen if they are going to without pressure. I am the same way with running. I cannot run with someone else and if someone DOES run with me and gets ahead or tried to PUSH me I start to literally hyperventilate and have to walk. It's PTSD from my military runs I am sure because I could never keep up.
CHEERS to our success ladies!!!

One more... 81 flights of stairs last week.3

Went hiking in the coast where our Very Favorite restaurant does take out.
Didn’t do it. 🎉🎉🎉 That makes 9 months (Valentine’s Day) no eating out nor take out. This restaurant is the only one that still tempts me.
Enjoyed our ocean walk, the glorious sunset, and each other! ❤️ Shared a cheese stick as we drove home & ate our healthy dinner.
Progress!

@MadisonMolly2017 I love your photograph of the ocean during sunset 💖 .
I enjoyed reading everyone's November NSVs. Well done y'all 🤩 .
My November NSV has been that I have been purposely clearing paper work off the table every night (except for yesterday). I have been doing this since finishing my "table paper pile". It has been encouraging to see an empty table first thing in the morning when I awake. It is like a fresh start to whatever I need to accomplish there for that day, and also to know that when nighttime comes all paperwork will be considered finished... for that day.

@texasgardnr, nice goal!
I have so much paper on my dining room table; all over, really. I need to come up with some sort of plan for 2021.2 -

@PLM0515
That is Totally do-able!
I did all “non-sentimental” paper in 2017 & it’s still in order. It does take more time than Marie Kondo’s other categories because I had to handle each page. This included all my past paintings & drawings. ( I began with all my teaching career papers, letters from kids & parents, my writings, and photos in 2015-16. In 2017 I was focused on financial, medical, old Xmas cards, various articles I’d kept misc.
I can’t quite remember, but I think I used my 15 mins a day method. The KEY for me was being ruthless (LOL) and creating LABELED file folders/containers.
Honestly I haven’t missed any of it. Some people - like my husband- scans things & then discards...I will sometimes take a photo...but that’s a whole other hornet’s nest LOL
Progress not Perfection 😘3 -
@MadisonMolly2017 Thank you for sharing your paper taming process. Seems more like it was a gentle approach rather than cracking the whip And it worked! Seems a bit overwhelming to think about all the categories, but making a detailed list and checking things off would help give visual proof of progress. Are you a list maker? Or do you keep track of what you did in your journal?
@texasgardnr It sounds like you've established a habit That's the goal, so (I'm on my computer so you will have to imagine the party hats and fireworks icons) awesome job!
November NSV: I walked at least 1400 steps every morning. That is huge for me, folks Before July came along, I would get up in the morning and sit in my chair and enjoy several cups of coffee, sometimes watch the news, read a book, catch up with my games with friends, check out MFP, email, etc. Then there was 1 1/2 hours of TV time that I couldn't miss! So my steps count was often meager and i knew I wouldn't change without a challenge. Don't get me wrong, I really wasn't a total slug. I walked and worked outside a lot, just in the afternoon. I started out my July goal with 1000 steps and have increased by 100 each month. In November I met or exceeded my steps goal for 20 days straight, got sidetracked a few days for classes, and then finished out the month with a bang. I no longer sit in my chair in the mornings, but go upstairs and do my daily intentions page. I drink my water and make coffee first. Then I do all the computer stuff until my TV show is on and I use LONG commercial time to walk and read to make sure I'm getting my steps in. I would love to go outside and walk but will need a challenge to force myself to do that. So for now, I'll carry on as I have been and add another 100 in December.3 -
@nebslp
I always use a gentle approach. Marie Kondo. Says to declutter when we WANT to, so that’s what I did. After the books & clothes, I dove into papers in one room, then the next, etc. recycled or shredded 90%. Put the others in a box to sort & place in folders later. Put sentimental items in another box. Put art in a 3rd. Dieting/cooking/exercise in another... medical...passwords, addresses...
I did it as I found things, clumped them. Eventually set up folders, which are awesome!!
I make short lists of VIP tasks that must happen ASAP.
I do have a binder of other tasks..am pondering your morning review of planner...
Congratulations on your habit changes!! It feels great, doesn’t it?!! 👏👏👏👏👏1 -
@MadisonMolly2017
Thanks for all the practical tips! I can definitely see myself using some of these strategies.
I'm wondering WHY I saved so many work papers. Also, yesterday I found and shred Toyota promotional e-mails from 2019 that I had actually printed. I'm sure I'll find more! (At least those are easy to shred and get rid of.) 😕
@nebslp
Great job with those steps! I get up early but spend a lot of time lingering over my morning tea.

@PKM0515
I wondered the same re: all my work stuff!
One tip I learned from a friend AFteR I had hand shredded tons of personal/financial papers is our town every once in awhile brings in shredders that you can throw a whole box of papers in...
REALLy wish I’d known.
Also my books took me 6 weeks (the art books 3 weeks as I wanted to keep many if them but I knew I only liked 1-2 things in many of them...
My tip: do books in categories, if you have them organized.
Biggest tip: I hired a teenage neighbor to haul the books to the library book sale folks. And to take other loads (clothing, kitchen gadgets) to Goodwill RIGHT AFTER I’d gone through them so I couldn’t reclaim them at drop off!! hahaha
I took extra fabric, children’s toys, kid quality art supplies, some decorative objects to my single mom Pilates teacher whose kids loved to do art but she couldn’t buy the supplies. They show me some of their creations & it made me feel great!!
Out of order..The teenager was so quick & efficient. All I had to do was say take & point LoL
Last thing- I promise- LOL once I’d cleared the new “Guest Room” I turned a desk/hutch into the location for all my Knick knacks, photos in frames, little statues, gifts... I call it Maddie’s Gift Shop. I select a few for the fireplace mantle. When I get tired of them I return them to the shop, and select a few more. I also could see how many of these little items I had, so I could part with the ones I didn’t LOVE. This is probably my favorite idea❣️
Take Care,
Maddie3 -
@MadisonMolly2017 Thank you for sharing with us your ideas and tips about how you succeeded! I very much appreciated them. Some of them were truly super cool like your Maddie’s Gift Shop concept!!
I love your community shredding event, shredding tip. We have on rare occasions had them happen here in the past.
For shredding I have sometimes utilized the shredding services offered at the big chain office supply stores for our larger amounts at one time (personal, tax, business) paper. At the store nearest to me there are coupons and sales offered sometimes on the service. And it is amazing how much paper is actually a pound of paper! The big shredders come to the store and the boxes are locked. For me (and my home shredder, as well as my precious time) it is worth every penny.
For smaller or day to day amounts I just cut off personal/ sensitive information and shred only that part. Recycle the rest.
Marie Kondo is so into categories, and it works for a lot of things, even during mini decluttering sessions! Categories is also how I do it when I'm into decluttering my books.
Books in general, (or at least some categories of them) should be part of MK's "sentimental" category for some of us 😁💖📚 !
@PKM0515 you can definitely conquer the table papers.... one paper or tiny clump of them at a time! We are all rooting for you 👏🌼 .
One very important thing, in my experience, is to make a doable plan to immediately get rid of junk paper, or a place to keep important papers, for every single incoming piece of paper. That way nothing additional is added to what is already in your home, only to be decluttered or filed away at a later time. Later, as time goes on you can refine and/or beautify your filing/ keeping strategy.
@nebslp I really enjoyed reading your November NSV post!! Well done 🌷!
