Hi @MaltedTea
Of course! Thank you for asking!
I heard it in this group, I think, as a suggestion from James Clwar of Atomic Habits fame...
So I think I’d the Identity of someone who maintains effortlessly...
I think of friends I know who are normal weight, active, make healthy food choices...and food is not a “pull” on them.
So, Inwas walking down the sidewalk to do a Starbucks pick up, and Really took a look in the store windows as I did so (usually haven’t in my life)
And the Identity comment popped into my head.
“I am a person who: stands tall & lean with a long confident stride.” And then a feeling came over me -and these friends- and I began to image what they would be doing/saying to themselves. Inhabiting or trying on their identity. They would have ordered differently- less sweet, smaller sizes.
So I then adopted that
“I am a person who orders small sizes & chooses the healthiest option, but prefers to eat at home with her own delicious meals”
That instead of:
I can’t eat out
Ok you can have a “treat” once a day
Oh well at least it was a grande not a venti
No bargaining
No fighting my old habits & family of origins modeled eating..
A NEW identity -
eats when hungry, wouldn’t think if it otherwise
Would never overeat, feels awful
Looks in store windows at svelte self- happy confident
Uses her energy to pursue interests & help others - not fill time eating out
Handles emotions is ways that work - wouldn’t think of eating to squelch them
Etc.
Then I realized before I’d called it a new mindset, but your Identity is embedded, it’s who you are... deeper. And it’s no longer a willpower thing
Hope this help,
Maddie

I was going to use a pass. But after doing 2 workouts in the evening (thinking it's no use, since I would need to burn too much) and almost evening it out, I decided to be reasonable and not use that pass. After all, the scale hast finally moved. So when I wrote last week that I will just keep doing what I am doing, I was right! Call this a NSV even! Keep going even if the scale does not reflect the hard work.
@Dory_42 Hugs 🤗. Dunno what more to say... 😑2 -
Yes x 3. Exercise was 40 minute walk1

@Hulya_79 When you miss daily posts, you are welcome to catch up just as you did. You don't have to take a Pass Day for posting late.0
-
@MadisonMolly2017 Wow! What constitutes an Identity Change? I know that we can self-sabotage positive change by holding on to destructive habits that are reinforced by identity. Is that what you mean?2

@jetsam327 Congratulations on committing to staying the course to develop healthy habits!!0

@dewit That is so right!! Focus on your healthy mindset and habits. Forget the scale because it is a deceiver.0
