We are very close to mid-month January.
As you are moving through this month, do you have any new insights or discoveries?
For me, I am enjoying and yet being challenged by adjusting to no longer working full-time. This is a major change in activity and identity.
What about you?

13th Jan
Used my last pass yest and today was another fail of a day. Hve had non stop visitor's sleep over since before xmas. I live in a holiday destination so my family and friends stay for extended periods of time and wen they do the stress of hosting them makes healthy eating harder than id like. I also get embarrassed weighing food in front of ppl. On a positive note the 2nd month of UAC has made me realise and made it very apparent that hosting ppl is a major trigger for me! Back on the accountability horse again tomz. Good night to you all.10 -

@RangerRickL working part time wld be a massive adjustment. Enjoy and all the best with it!1 -
I have been working only part-time for a few years now. It took me a good year to adjust, but I found a great social and cultural life and started to do a lot of physical exercise too. I had plenty of time to travel, see my kids in UK, my Mum, friends and family in the UK and the Netherlands. With Lockdown I do almost no work and my social, cultural and physical activities have come to almost a complete standstill. I haven't seen my kids in over a year, my 98-year-old Mum in 10 or 11 months. I have coped and managed as best I could, but last September/ October it all became too much and I could just about take care of the needs of my partner with Alzheimer's, who, most days, is the only person I see.
I abandoned UAC and MFP, got back into bad habits, put on weight I had lost before.
What I have learnt is that, in the absence of all the things that make my life joyful, rewarding, fulfilling, I desperately need a routine, which is something that this challenge gives me. I make a plan for the day to include some exercise, mostly walking, although I have a bicycle. I plan my meals a few days ahead and organise my shopping. The rest falls into place. I have to be accountable at the end of the day, not just to myself, but on a forum. This all helps.
Thank you all for being there!20 -
Very active day but I read an article that says recent research confirms that when it comes to heart health there is no such thing as too much exercise, so I’m happy.
Morning run, yoga and abs. Then coffee with my man before a tough Pilates reformer class. My legs were jelly afterwards, but I went to kids Jiu Jitsu, laid out all the mats because my fellow coach was running late and then helped coach the whole class. Glad to get a quiet evening at home to read and relax now.
Food choices were not great but I’ve already logged dinner and I know it will be enough to satisfy me (and that at least is healthy, like breakfast was). I’m under budget so don’t need to use a pass day yet. Still have all three available.12 -
👀 Can we all just take a moment to notice that @Dory_42 has claimed him as "my man" please? 🥰
Without being too weird, I'm thoroughly enjoying living through you and @ForLangston both 🤣13 -

Wednesday 13th January:
3 x Yes.
Exercise is still a bit skimpy, but I am walking 5 minutes more every day. I am really out of condition, so I just did 20 minutes yesterday, but 25 minutes today. The weather is lovely here, which helps, sunny, 15°C.9 -

I agree. I is good to repeat!
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? yes 8 miles in 2 workouts.
Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? yes - thinking of increasing a little
Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? yes
Insights for Jan. I think I finally realized that I am going to have to continue wfh for several more months and with that I have eased up on my rigid schedule a little. Instead of running in the freezing dark morning now I am running at lunch more. Of course in summer not gonna happen. But little things to make life easier which in the past I had "rules" about are happening.

Insight for January: after ten months WFH I am starting to miss the office! Most of the time it's not an issue and I'm very lucky to have a good setup with a home office all to myself, but I do miss some of the real life interactions.
On top of the pandemic stuff the last six months have also been extremely challenging on a personal level with more bad news over the past week, and it has *really* made me rethink priorities. Like @Chinkiri I'm recognising the benefit of routines for mental health, even though I'm not always that good at implementing them.9 -
I stayed within my calories today. But I didn't get my 20 minutes exercise.
1 pass day used.8 -
My recent insight is that it is going to take longer than just a few weeks to lose the weight that I want to - but also that I’m happy with that. Like @Chinkiri i too fell out of this challenge in September when a knee injury turned life upside down but up until that point I had been really enjoying it. Sharing that I’ve managed to log my food and stay under calories every day feels like a success, and right now I need that as life is so flat in lockdown! And having three pass days a month means it doesn’t feel completely impossible.
So - three yeses from me today, my exercise was a 20 min exercise bike session, 40 minutes of gentle Pilates (still can’t kneel down and I look ridiculous getting on and off the floor but I will get there!) and a 40 minute walk.8 -
I can't think of any new insights this month, but I'm continuing to act on insights I gained last year when I started this round of weight loss. Meal planning and preparing/freezing meals in advance are key for me, but I've realized I need variety for calorie-restricted eating to be maintainable over time. In the past, I would eat the same thing almost every day when trying to lose weight. This time, I am experimenting with different recipes and coming up with a much larger "menu" of recipes that I know I like that fit my calorie goals.

Almost 300 calories left, a nice 🚶♀️ w one of my boys, a good tabata+glutes 30 min session and cheek retracting a bit (stiches are a bit annyoing, but not too much). I'm good as new 😃.
New... workout programs! I have completed a few last year and am now in the last phase of a 12w challenge. Can't wait to go back to lifting 🏋♀️ and alternate that with cardio 🤸♀️ of my choice, since this gives me the freedom to alternate between trainers and redo some of my fave workouts. 👍5 -

This January I've just been trying to be patient with myself. Often when I get into something new, I go overboard and expect too much of myself. For instance, I want to do one beginner class and then want to jump to intermediate. I don't need to be showing growth every week in something. I can just be.10 -

Start weight, January 1, 2021: 132.0December 1, 2020 – 135.6
November 6, 2020 – 140.8
October 2, 2020 – 147.8
September, 14, 2020 – 153.0
My calorie rule for January UACDefining, for myself more than anything, what is the definition of my daily calorie goal. For Oct and Nov, I used 1430 and not eating back exercise. December, I raised that to 1480 with no additional calories for exercise. For January, I am going to try a blended rule; either Food calories under 1480, or Net calories (ie Food minus exercise) under 1200. So, if my exercise burns less than 280 on a given day, there is no added calories. BUT, if I exercise more, I have the option additional food OR if I overeat, I have the option of exercising more to not use a pass day. This flexibility was not something I allowed in my previous rounds. Once I exceeded my goal calories, regardless of my exercise burn. Also, I am defining that I am using the MFP estimate for the caloric burn from exercise. I know I could get different numbers elsewhere, but I am going to use only the one source – good or bad.Date: 1/1
