The Ugly Bowl

I mentioned the ugly chunk of apple I was working on the other day. This is how it turned out. I still think it's kind of ugly, but Rita likes it, so I'll go with her opinion.

Definitely not perfect, but i see beauty in its grain. The black areas are holes in the wall of the bowl? If so, did you fill with epoxy?0

They are holes you could stick your finger through. I didn't fill them at all. They look black because of the dark table it is sitting on.0

Ah yes, once I viewed on a decent monitor instead of on my phone, I can see with much better definition.
To fill those, it would require you to pour a resin into the cracks or defects and allow to cure prior to turning, right?0 -
Amazing... a museum piece!0

Yeah, Lee, people use two-part resins, with color added. Many times, they put the piece in a pressure pot to cure, too, to eliminate bubbles in the resin. It can be really stunning, done well. I might do that sometime, but I am not really into turning plastic. You get a mess made up of shavings that have to go into the trash, not the garden mulch.0

Good Morning!
Dave, that is a beautiful bowl! I like it, even with the holes! There would be many uses for a bowl like that. Simply stunning in its basic and raw beauty. You really do outstanding work.

I think it is lovely with the motion of the grain and the shapes of the bowl. The holes are part of its natural beauty.0
