Sept 7: After Labor day
Saturday - active day with yard work and other assorted chores around the house... ate a little too much but not excessively
Sunday - active day again, house work and weekly shopping trips... ate better
Monday - rode 21 miles to start the day and then ran errands the rest of the day - completed the day with grilling chicken and veggies for dinner. Food was on point, protein at 137 grams, carbs at 132 grams net.
Checked BG this morning (2 hours after my morning ride) - 67... need more carbs apparently.
My ride this morning was interesting - temp was in the upper 60's and humidity was down some, so it actually felt cold to start the ride - funny how you can get acclimated to low 80's as 'cool'.1 -
9/9:
Tuesday's ride was 15.95 miles @ 13.3 mph average.
No ride yesterday - had a video call for work at 8:00, so couldn't get the ride in and be presentable for that, and then it rained most of the morning. I did manage to get in 100 push-ups (4 sets of 25) so the day wasn't a complete bust for exercise. Food was ok, carbs were a little high at 161 net (damn those cinnamon rolls!).
Did ride this morning and I am continuing the body-weight workouts during working hours.1 -
9/10:
Biked 16.73 miles yesterday, did 180 push-ups (9 x 20) and 3 x 1 minute planks
Food was on point with protein above 100 and carbs below 150
Biked 16.14 miles this morning and will be doing legs thru the day.1 -
9/10:
Extra post today...
I have been averaging about 13.4 mph on the bike so far this season, which is a pretty good average for a hybrid bike... but I have had this voice in my head telling me that I am riding too slow and that I was riding faster and better last year (you know how those voices can get).
So, I pulled up my spreadsheets from last season (yes, I am a nerd and a numbers guy), and over the course of 85 rides, I posted 2 rides where I had a 14+ mph average or better for the duration of the ride...
So, shut-up little voice, you are a liar!!1 -
9/15:
Mid month check-in
Bike miles -> 155.92
Steps -> 95,738
Weight loss -> 3 lbs
On track to make my goals for the month (except maybe weight, but with it going down I am happy). I have been eating more consistently and have kept protein at 118 grams average per day and net carbs at 128 grams per day. I have also been active for 13 of the 15 days, which is better than last month.
I shall just keep going, since it's working.1 -
9/16:
Got a bike ride in yesterday before work -> 17.9 miles @ 13.9 mph avg <- and today before work -> 18.52 miles @ 13.5 mph avg <-. Difference between the two rides... yesterday was cool and low humidity and today was warmer (still cool) but humidity was 78 when I left the house... really saps the energy when I can't cool down during the ride. Also checked the blood sugar about 2 hours after the ride - was really dragging - and it had cratered to 55... ate a banana and some yogurt to get that going in the right direction. Will be doing DB curls today for some added upper body work.1 -
9/20:
Thursday and Friday were good food days, protein and carbs where they should be. Rode the bike Thursday before work, but not Friday... Thursday was date night with the missus and we didn't get in until really late, which means that I slept in till 6:30 Friday morning (oh, the horror!).
The weekend was a crush... no deliberate exercise but I spent both days replacing the flooring in the last room in the house that hadn't been done - removed the furniture and stuff, pulled carpet/pad, cleaned up, laid vapor barrier, installed laminate, moved all the stuff back into the room. Lots of squats, heavy lifting, trips between the room and the saw out back, etc - my hammies and glutes were so friggin tight this morning (note to self - bike is great for quads and calves, sucks on hammies and glutes - do more squats and lunges!). Food was not good on Saturday (ate at maint - dam the PB!), but got it back under control on Sunday.
Started the day with a bike ride before work (a little slower than usual due to soreness from the weekend). Will keep the food at a deficit for the day.1 -
9/21:
Exercise was good, rode 18.21 miles before work and then ran errands after work to stay active. Still a bit sore this morning from the flooring work over the weekend. Did not ride this morning - daughter has to be at school by 8 on Tuesdays, so not enough time to get a ride in before taking her - will be doing body weight and DB exercises thru the day today.
Food was on point yesterday - protein over 130 and carbs just over 150, so a really good mix (calories also in check!). Weight is still slightly up, but the DOMS haven't subsided so no surprise there. Hopefully, working out today will help relieve the DOMS.1 -
9/22:
Exercise - rest day so no scheduled exercise
Food - protein 119 grams, carbs 123 grams net
A good day
9/23:
Exercise - no bike ride, minor family emergency kept me up past midnight so I slept in, did manage to get some body weight work in so not a total waste for exercise
Food - protein 129 grams, carbs 132 grams net
The DOMS from the floor install has finally subsided and I have dropped 4 pounds (water most likely) in the last 2 days. Did get out on the bike this morning and I will be doing body weight/DB workouts during the day.1 -
9/24:
Exercise - road 17.04 miles @ 13.7 mph, 75 minute ride.
Food - calories were good, protein 141 grams, carbs 129 grams net
It has been chilly here the last couple of mornings - in the upper 50's - so the ride has been more pleasant as I'm not dripping wet in the middle of the ride. Only problem with that is I actually have to think about drinking water during the ride - body cues don't cut it in weather like this.
Will get a ride in tomorrow, but don't know what the rest of the weekend will look like.1 -
9/29 check-in:
Bike rides -> 26.9 miles on Saturday, 17.8 miles Monday, 17.8 miles today.
Food -> mostly good, did have a bit of a go with the PB last night, but still managed to be down in weight for the morning, so no real damage done.
Clocked my first 14 mph average on this morning's ride, so feeling good after the rest day on Tuesday... I have to get my daughter to class by 8 am, so no rides on Tuesday (will be taking Tuesday's for a rest day thru the end of the year).
Checked blood sugar 2 hours after my rides on Monday and today and both days it was in the mid to upper 60's so keeping the carbs around 150 is working well in that sense.
Will do a 'final' accounting of the month tomorrow - progress report, future goals, etc.1 -
September wrap-up:
Exercise was good for the month - biked 309.14 miles, walked an additional 25.33 miles and averaged 7247 steps per day. I also did 900 push-up across the month, so not totally neglecting my upper body.
Food - good except for a couple of weekends that went totally off the rails, protein daily average was 122 grams and net carbs average was 140.
Weight - down 6.7 lbs... not as much as I would have liked but I will definitely take it.
Now, some non-number related observations...
1. I am sleeping better now
2. My shirts are getting longer (not really, there's just less of me to cover so they hang farther down)
3. I have been eating more veggies lately and fewer crap foods like chips (don't even want the chips that often, just a habit that is being broken)
4. PB is evil and must be banned from the house
5. I have reached the highly annoying droopy phase in weight loss... that phase where you have lost enough to see the difference, but there isn't enough fat to hold the skin out tight like it used to... especially evident in my belly area... sigh
Enough for now... October will be a good month.1 -
Monday check-in (10/4):
No ride on Friday, it was raining in the morning and that closes the bike paths, food was good for the day.
Saturday was busy, lots of chores, rode 21.45 miles on the bike, cleaned up in the garage, got the Halloween deco out of the attic, etc. Food was good, high protein and carbs on point.
Sunday was another busy day, spent the day running errands with the better half, putting up the Halloween decorations and taking care of other things around the house. Food was okay, protein was good but carbs were a little high for the day.
Started the day today with a bike ride and will be doing upper body stuff later today.1 -
Wednesday (10/6)
Monday was a good day, rode 19 miles to start the day, protein was great at 140 grams, carbs were a little high at 159 net grams, calories were also good.
Tuesday's exercise was lunges and push-ups (rest day from riding). Food was a total train wreck... stopped logging after I went over 2500 calories for the day and I'm pretty sure that I missed some along the way. The only good news is that I got on the scale this morning and I was only up 1/2 a lb (HTH does that happen???), so no major damage done. Since I really don't have a goal date to be at a certain weight, the long-term consequences are minimal.
Started the day today with breathing and a bike ride, so all is back to normal and I continue the slog.1 -
Friday (10/8)
Wednesday and yesterday were both good exercise days - rode 19.5 miles on Wednesday and 19 miles on Thursday in the mornings, and did upper body workouts (push-ups, curls and OHP) in the afternoon.
Food was good both days as well - protein 109/119 grams and carbs 144/133 net grams.
Hadn't checked blood sugar in awhile, so checked it today 2 hours after my ride and it was 65, which is expected after burning all the glucose riding the bike (also gets me the flashing red arrow on the tester because its below 70).
Weight is down 2.6 lbs this week, so WOOHOO!!!2
