Stress/emotional eating…
I’ve been noticing that I don’t do that anymore.
I began moving in that direction when I found myself in kitchen, wanting to eat, bit knowing I wasn’t hungry and/or had no calories left… I’d say to myself, “You’ll just have two problems then…the one at present & the one in future that will require dieting, which you HATE” and I’d walk out of the kitchen or get a giant bowl of carrots/celery/etc.
Side note: often that wanting to eat everything in sight feeling occurs to me after a salty meal. So I drink water lol
Finally, I guess I just decided that overeating fixes nothing7 -

I'm not an emotional eater at all. In fact there was a time in my younger years when I was stressed or upset my stomach would be in knots and I couldn't eat at all. I got over it by quitting a job I hated (after six years) but never went to the other extreme. However, there have been times when I wanted to have a drink if I was stressed out or pissed off about something at work. For the most part I'd get over it by the time I got home. In retirement it is rare that I feel any kind of stress or anger (as long as I limit my news reading!) so the feeling of needing a drink is non existent.
On the other hand exercise does enhance my mood. When I worked I also noticed that my mood noticeably improved from Monday to Thursday (I worked 4 10s) which I'm sure was due to the upcoming weekend. We humans are weird.6 -

Yes to all questions.
Pass days: 0
Calories to burn: 49,280. Yesterday: 46,970.
As for today I woke up much earlier than usual, wasn't feeling well, so I cut my walking to 30 minutes in parts. So my 10k streak is over but my goal was to walk 300k by the end of the month and not 10k a day, I'm still on the clear for that.
About today's topic, I used to find it much easier to not have snacks at home. I would look for them and when I don't find them, I feel a little frustrated but I don't go and buy them, the next day I would feel more at ease without eating them. Since my emotional eating is all about snacking, my weakness, I don't usually over eat real meals. In regards to exercising, I think doing it in the morning is the best option for me, we usually stress out during the day, when I already did exercise, I don't feel overwhelmed but more at peace in the middle of chaos.
Goodnight / good morning to you all 💜💛5 -

This topic is convicting 😬 Thank you, everyone, for having shared because I see myself in your experiences. Also @RangerRickL, I love Rose more and more each time you post about her!
While I still occasionally emotionally eat, that is now restricted to reacting to particular stressors. As of this year, however, my brain has been able to catch myself more often.
Perhaps that's because I now take notes when catching myself emotional eating. That way, I can open Google Keep notes and realign myself to do something that will be actually helpful in that moment. And that something is rarely eating as a reaction to stress.
So, for @Jana_2020 and anyone else feeling challenged by emotional eating, I hope your stressors reduce (or you are able to see them differently) and that you find a better way to fuel yourself helpfully to deal with the experience.

✔️✔️✔️Done all the things.
Emotional eating is my messy bag. Eating if you are bored is emotional eating... So emotional eating doesn't always have to be a huge breakdown. The only thing I can suggest is to ask why do I want to eat right now. If hungry is the answer then eat if my mind starts off with well I want it or it will make me feel better then I find something else to do. Drink water and wait.5 -
Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. Got tired of the same old walking route, so I changed it up by going on a nearby nature trail by the Brazos River.

Had to come back today to chime in on the great topic!
I am going to say I USED to be an emotional eater, big time.... eating was my answer to everything! Happy? Eat! Sad? Eat! Stressed? Eat! I loved the rush food gave me and a binge or indulgence for no reason other than to enjoy food alongside feelings was my norm.
My family is very much like that, so not surprised I was this way as well.
Of course, as the article and as many of you have acknowledged here, eating doesn't fix the problem (or make happiness better). There were always the feelings afterwards, whether I dealt with them or not.
Food was 100% something I did not have control over. And that made it very, very easy for me to gain a lot of weight!
Anyway... I completely understand now that my goals and habits that I'm working on here are way more important and a hella lot more satisfying than the temporary relief food gave.
I still ENJOY food, but I do so within boundaries. I do think I am out of the emotional eating cycle. The key is to not let a setback or a bad moment send me back there. Being super present on MFP and this community helps keep my mind in the right space!
One other thing is that I try to not treat hunger like an emergency anymore. I'm not saying being hungry feels great to me, but I used to act like it was the absolute end of the world. Now I sit it in and remind myself the next meal is always just around the corner. This also helps me to ensure I'm eating for the right reasons.6 -

@MaltedTea Ty for your warm wishes above - somehow I accidentally clicked into the August group and saw your post. (I don't have a lot of free time to read through all of the UAC posts daily; I tend to just read the intro if I'm short on time.)
I've missed you in the UAC - hoping all is well!1
