Nugget #3 for me is the right advice if you know that a number you don't like sends you into a tailspin. If the self-sabotage response is the default, it's not worth it.
However, if I don't weigh, I'll get out of hand.
I prefer to weigh daily and use it as practice to strengthen my mind to see it as just data to act based upon and not to send me into an emotional binge based on perfectionist all or nothing thinking. I struggle with this - it's not easy for me but I have gotten much better at it.
When I started I weighed weekly and never thought I'd enjoy weighing daily, but now I swear by it and have no intention of stopping.7 -

Thanks to this post/discussion I’ve downloaded Happy Scale and am really enjoying all this data!5 -
So I guess what I’m saying is yes the scale shouldn’t be our main focus, but our medical system - at least in the US - is not designed to recognize that good habits out weigh the number on the scale. (See what I did there? 😂)
My apologize if I seem aggressive in this post, this is a really loaded and sensitive topic for me. Lol.
This is a judgement free, all opinions welcome zone. How you feel is how you feel, and I appreciate your honesty. I’m only offended that there’s something wrong with size 11 feet? I’ll put my size 11 klonkers against yours anyday. My husband likes to say that if he knew how ugly my feet were when we met, there never would have been date #2.

Your feet are lovey ❤️. It was just to illustrate I was not a petite human. I have lots of shoes you can borrow!. My two BFFs are all 5’0” with size 6 feet. When they try on my shoes they quite literally look like children trying on their moms clothes 😂
Edit: I feel like the sentence “your feet are lovely” probably sounds suuuuuper creepy. I feel like in this context it’s ok though? 🤔 I promise I’m not creepy in real life 😂❤️

Thank you @biketheworld for the time you are taking with this series and your comment posts. Although yes, we have some different journeys and thoughts, I'm certain that many of us are absorbing and applying these nuggets. And the others are kind enough to quietly let us do so.
I do tend to weigh daily, sometimes several times a day, but I may be a tad OCD 😉 However, I've learned not to be discouraged and watch the trend. In the past, I did get discouraged and gave up. Luckily my daughter recognized this, and brought it to my attention (several times lol). These nuggets are going to be something that I reread often to keep my eye on the end goal.
Yes x3 today.

@biketheworld - I am super appreciative of the time you’re putting into your posts and the feedback. Hopefully my first response didn’t come across as rude or unappreciative. I’m more just triggered by this topic and probably should have just skipped posting. Ah well. I really do love this little UAC family we’ve got going on here. ❤️4

I knew today was going to be a tough day… busy at work, back to back meetings, no time to get to the gym… so I prepared for it. I grabbed a quick 15 min walking workout video in the am, and topped it off with another walking workout for 10 min before bed…so exercise done!
Track: Yes!
Under calorie goal: Yes!
Passes used: 2
I’m going to do my very best not to use any more passes… we can do this!!!!7 -
I prefer to use measurements rather than a scale. Your body weight as measured by a normal scale causes too much unnecessary emotional distress.
Today, I chose to spend a Pass Day. I tracked activity, and intake for most of the day. I intentionally did not track my evening dinner at a restaurant. It was still a successful and enjoyable day.7 -

I’m joining your feet & hips club! The world is tough on bigger women & smaller men, but we’re moving’ on!! Focusing on health, habits, and happiness!!!!❤️
I will say my hips got smaller than I ever thought possible & my feet haven’t looked this good in 40 years!! I know a lot of people see my weight on MFP & think I must have ~ 30 lbs to lose, but I’m a normal weight🎉 normal body & visceral fat🎉🎉 normal skeletal muscle, and a freakin’ normal BMI.
Normal is such a beautiful word to me!!
All doctors thrilled @yearly average about 156lbs & now only 5’8”.
Friends walk past me!! Initially it freaked me out, but now I love being a Secret Agent! 🕵️

How do you manage the last one – keep phone usage to a minimum? What do you aim for? Do you use it for games? Reading? Getting the news? Or is it Social media you are trying to cut back on?
Thanks so much @lesdarts180.
I deleted my social media accounts a few years back so for me personally I found that i was mindlessly wasting time on my phone msging friends to searching the net etc.
I find if i dnt keep it in check i can spend too much time on it which then results in me procrastinating.
Since making a conscious effort to limit my time on it I get so much done and I also notice my mood is better and as crazy as this may sound my thoughts are clearer on days I limit my phone time.
I try to aim to stay off it during the day then give myself 20 to 30 min at night to scroll the net, go on mfp and msg friends etc
This is still very much a work in progress.. I hve sum days that I do well and others not so well! Xo

I went to the Fair today, I had a great time. Lots of walking. I enjoyed some of the food and treats (I didn't go overboard) but I don't know how many calories I consumed so I'm taking a pass day. Back on track tomorrow.

exercise? yep
tracking? yep
calories? nope
I expected this as it was "Tucson Meet Yourself" today and local cultural groups were set up downtown selling food and that was lunch. I usually get Greek food but I always tell myself some day I'm going to try something different. Today was not that day. I did look at the other booths, but the lines were so long and it was pushing mid to upper 90s at lunch. So when I passed the Greek booth and there was no line? Yep, Greek it was (spanokopita, dolmathes, and a piece of baklava) and that, as expected, threw me over the top.6 -
Date: 10/8
Exercised ?: YES walked 2.15, one of them was in the rain!
Calories ? YES
Tracked? YES
Pass Days 0/3
I also noticed the importance of reading labels and thinking twice to maximize calories instead of going for what is convenient. Or seeing an opportunity to make an option easier in the future. I used a Greek yogurt and added healthy add-in. Vs a pre-made yogurt with 4x more sugar. As I made one to eat for the present, I also made an extra one for the next day.
Appreciate the post and everyone’s vulnerability.
It got me thinking….Having a not sleek looking, analog scale shuts down the desire to weigh self constantly. Just a barometer to progress. I might not upgrade as I originally intended.6 -
Oct 7
Exercise - 15 minute MommaStrong, 20 minutes biking to town and back
Tracking - Didn't make a plan, but tracked as I went (estimating)
Calories - Under
Pass Days - 0
Friday is my planned high calorie takeout day, with the new plan that some people here suggested. I was estimating like crazy, and estimating high, but still wound up a few hundred calories under my super high goal. It kind of feels like cheating... but it was planned. Last meal at my favorite restaurant before it closes - so sad. Actually last two meals, because I split the meal over lunch and dinner.
I have been weighing myself daily for ... uh... close to 20 years and close to half my lifetime. Much of that time while in maintenance. I don't worry about the fluctuations because I know what causes them most of the time. To me, doing it every day helps actually keep it from being that important.
But I do see the importance of tracking how you feel as well - I definitely have noticed that with the 15 minute morning exercise program I have been doing - I don't see any weight differences from it but I definitely see functional strength differences and that is really important.
And I see the importance of staying consistent with the habits even if the scale is not cooperating. That's why I am going to try this new weekly schedule for a few weeks before concluding whether it works or not. My weight loss has been slow and so something could have an effect and it'll take a while to see it (for good or bad in this case). I think the UAC is awesome for emphasizing the good habits without emphasizing the planned result of those habits. Because ultimately you can control the habits and not the result.4 -

@SummerSkier – no passes, well done!
“Like others I have regained weight over and over again in the past. But I do not blame it on ditching the scale. That was just a symptom of not caring enough to even weigh any more. Usually the not weighing comes AFTER the gain starts and not when things are going well.”
I agree with this – sometimes when you know you have gained weight (clothes getting tight) you just want to pretend it’s not happening.

✅ Exercise: 12 weight machines, 40 minutes swimming

I tend to go weeks without weighing. For a long time, I have felt that ¨honesty pants¨ (a tight pair of pants used only for the purpose of seeing if I am getting smaller or larger) makes more sense. However, last night I finally ordered one of those smart scales. What I realized was that the history they keep could help me. We will see how often I weigh myself. Definetly won´t be daily. Right now I am losing weight so rapidly--far more rapidly than I have ever let myself do before. I just started using a Lumen, which works on metabolic flexibility and based on your CO2 readings gives daily suggestions of macros (I believe it comes under the category of carb cycling.) I had never done low carb before-- I think I am almost in fat burning mode and my body is casting off a lot of fluids in addition to burning fat right now.
