    Pass Day 8 (I think)
Exercise - I did a lot of going up and down stairs for house work/organizing but no formal exercise and did not manage to leave the house for a walk
Tracking - Planned the day, then abandoned the plan
    Calories - Probably over

Friday night I ate half of my takeout, and decided I wouldn't eat the leftovers. Saturday lunchtime I was really hungry and they were in the fridge, so I abandoned my pre-logged plan and ate the takeout leftovers instead. I think other than that I did pretty well with the day - and that might have been ok calories too, just not sure. It had a lot of cheese, though, so probably not.

What I love about this group is how much insight all of you have. It's also just inspiring to see other people valuing weight loss and working at it in spite of really serious life events and challenges. I don't really talk about weight loss in real life with people, and it really helps me to see that modeled.

I only joined UAC in September. When I have stepped away for a bit it's been because I've been struggling with my health and needing more sleep and just not having time for the morning check in. Otherwise I have found checking in to be so valuable.

Right now I seem to have stepped away from trying hard to get 3 checks every day (and I have my calorie goal set to maintenance, so it shouldn't be that hard). It's because I feel like I "deserve" a break. Or like I am pushing in other areas and something has to give. Or like it's a marathon, not a sprint. Hard to tell sometimes if those things are excuses or if I am doing a good job of exercising self-forgiveness for the long haul.

Great openers today! I always appreciate your contribution @StayFITTer, very insightful and great food for thought today.
As for @SummerSkier's questions, aside from accountability, my main goal for staying with the group is community. We are a group of very kind, supportive, and helpful members sharing like-minded goals and commitment to a cause. Although in the past I haven't always read through each day due to time constraints or my famous disappearing act for various reasons, I am actively trying to engage more. I very much appreciate the lack of pettiness and bickering in this group (my main reason for not participating on Facebook groups). So I guess this is a great time to thank everyone for your exceptional kindness, support and time that you each of you contribute to the group! <3<3<3 I very much appreciate everyone's contributions.
I did log today but I went over and didn't exercise.

Bowing to you and your first pass day since June!

While I realize this likely didn't "feel" good based on your comments, you deserve a lot of recognition for a crazy amount of dedication and consistency!

Shake it off indeed - the sum of your amazing streak of days will more than outweigh this pass day.

    Exercise – yes
    Tracked – yes
    Calories – yes

I’m catching up here on Sunday evening – can I remember what I did on Saturday?

Yes, I got wet through going out on my bike in the morning – it wasn’t raining when I got the bike out but the rain started when I was half way round my route and was bucketing down before I got home! That was a 30 minute ride. But it brightened up in the afternoon so I got the bike out again and cycled to the gym, did a workout and got home without getting wet again.

I joined this group in January 2021, just as my life went to pieces, and I received such support from the group while my son got sicker over the next few weeks/months and died in March. I was in maintenance weight-wise (in fact I got too thin over the stress and grief of that time) but having a plan, even just a simple – exercise for 20 minutes – helped me to have something to cling to. Since then, I have continued to find the friendship and support very helpful.

When I got home, I took my neighbor that had the stroke to get her truck.

Le sigh... *seizure* not stroke. She was diagnosed with epilepsy.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights and how Dweck’s work has impacted your life. You have some practical tips/simple framework for behavior modification. Identity based goals are everything. And it makes me think of James Clear and the compilation he’s created in his Atomic Habits book (and how he made BJ Fogg’s concepts more accessible) Slow, kind, tiny and consistent seems to win out!

    Thank you @StayFITTer!

Yes, Carol Dweck, BF Fogg’s free 5-day course,,James Clear, EST training decades ago (making commitments to ourselves that are as strong as they would be to a friend), β€œtrue” need-finding, self-compassion, and the findings of the National Weight Control Registry, many nutritional studies, … many pieces to my ever-improving approach.

I re-read the 6 findings of the Nat’l Wt Control Registry last night. I realized that they’ve been a road map over time!!

I did a lot of research in maintenance before I began my final weight loss journey…

    Findings:
80% of persons in the registry are women and 20% are men.
The "average" woman is 45 years of age and currently weighs 145 lbs, while the "average" man is 49 years of age and currently weighs 190 lbs.
Registry members have lost an average of 66 lbs and kept it off for 5.5 years.
These averages, however, hide a lot of diversity:
Weight losses have ranged from 30 to 300 lbs.
Duration of successful weight loss has ranged from 1 year to 66 years!
Some have lost the weight rapidly, while others have lost weight very slowly--over as many as 14 years.

We have also started to learn about how the weight loss was accomplished: 45% of registry participants lost the weight on their own and the other 55% lost weight with the help of some type of program.

98% of Registry participants report that they modified their food intake in some way to lose weight.βœ”οΈ

94% increased their physical activity, with the most frequently reported form of activity being walking.βœ”οΈ

There is variety in how NWCR members keep the weight off. Most report continuing to maintain a low calorie, low fat diet and doing high levels of activity.

    78% eat breakfast every day.βœ”οΈ
75% weigh themselves at least once a week.βœ”οΈ
62% watch less than 10 hours of TV per week.βœ”οΈ
90% exercise, on average, about 1 hour per day.βœ”οΈ

    Recent findings:
A pattern to their eating each day.βœ”οΈ

Consistent eating across weekdays & weekends led to greater chances of maintenance.βœ”οΈ

Fewer disinhibition eating increased chances of regain by 50%. (This is why I don’t do β€œfree” or β€œpass days.”)βœ”οΈ

One of my goals was to apply to the NWCR, which I did!

    βœ”οΈ= I do this now AND I didn’t before Jan 1, 2016
    I weigh daily.

@MadisonMolly2017 - Fascinating analysis of the NWLR. Thank you for the summary. We often times read these things, but don't always internalize it and apply it to our own lives. Congratulations for being able to turn insights into action!
