Not sure what happened to earlier post. MFP Gods must have taken a sacrificial penance from BBB.

Sunny. Hot. 95+ today. DB and family coming to use pool.

Beautiful Virginia evening to sit on patio with DW.

    Have a super day, gang!

    Good Morning,
Roof is done and yard cleaned, they really wrecked havoc with my dahlias, but they grow back
Cloudy today upper 80's, chance of rain every day Sunday through Thursday
Sinus still acting up, was suppose to do a ride for charity, just not enough energy
    Pool looks inviting
Steph, when are you migrating to warmer weather?
Great that you checked in Raine
Lisa, drops in sometimes but she stays busy marrying off daughters and caring for precious grands
Rhubarb will not grow down here so have only had a couple of times
Average life of a heat pump is about 10 years, though I have seen a few that were working at 20 years,
efficiency of older units makes sense for one to upgrade, have seen some with full payback of only 3 years.

    Good morning.

It's interesting reading about the heat pumps and ac units. When our AC in Deerfield died at 15 years old, we ended up with Carrier based on a recommendation mom's friend who does that work.

I've learned a lot about energy efficiency on those machines as part of my work with the Austin RMC. The savings they tout aren't as generous as they'd have you believe. A heat pump's savings are overstated in places like Minnesota and AC savings in Texas. They're probably rated for someplace like Palm Springs. There's some savings - mostly attributed to equipment age being the driver rather than any innovation in design.

And switching from an older high efficiency unit to a new one will never pay for itself. We've seen that with all the tankless water heater replacements after the 2021 winter storm.

    Morning BBB

Ron tweaked his back again yesterday so I made a solo trip to town for haircut and groceries. Today I will go to the art center to finish my pinecone wreath.

Our homeowners come home on June 1 then sightseeing in Northern California coast and multiple places in Oregon before heading to HOT Mesa for 3 months. No plans yet for October then Cuba And Mexico for winter. Flying out of Houston.

    Good morning BBB friends.

Most heat pumps operate in the air, if you will, pulling heat out of the atmosphere, or dumping it there. We had one in Indianapolis, long ago. Those old units didn't heat well when it got really cold, requiring a backup furnace for those sub-zero days. There are also heat pumps that operate by circulating a fluid underground, using the very stable temperature below the surface to draw or dump heat. These are very efficient, but expensive to install. There. That's all I have learned by watching This Old House.

Pretty day, here, but I have a maintenance party at church to attend and then yardwork at home. This would have been a great day to go fishing.

    Good afternoon BBB Friends.
    • Got a last-minute invite to ride and check out a new breakfast spot. Got there and found a sign saying they were closed due to lack of help. Ended up at an IHOP. Whoopee. It was nice to ride. Got rained on for about 90 seconds.
    • Cooled off a bit here. Highs expected in the mid 80s today.
    • New roofs are good. Beat the heck out of leaky roofs.
    • I agree Lou. Don't believe the sales promises. I just want reliability at this point.
    • We are not gardeners BUT, we have a tomato plant this year. Thirsty sucker.
