Anyone take spironolactone? I was curious what your side affects were when you first started and if it has helped you? Did you have any trouble with overheating?

Hi! I've taken spironolactone for years and years and have had no noticeable side effects. It helps with some of those unpleasant PCOS issues, like hirsutism. Good luck!0

I have also been taking spiro for years. At first I had some minor side effects, which went away after a couple of weeks. Mostly, feeling really thirsty and having to urinate frequently. Anyway, spiro has helped tremendously, especially with acne. But, it does take several months to see improvement. Good luck!0

Newly prescribed. I was wondering how it was going for you.0

i kept getting lightheaded and dizzy, overheated so I stopped taking it. It wasn't worth the side affects for me.0

I take it for this as well. I only side effect I had was losing some water weight, YEAH!
Sadly, my doctor is not refilling my prescription as I owe a $100 balance on a $700 bill, so I have been without this for two months and without my birth control as well. :explode:0 -
I took it for two years and never noticed either side effects or the positives I was supposed to be taking it for. After discussion with my doctor, we went back to diet and exercise and regular visits to have hair waxed and plucked.0

I took spironolactone but was starting to have kidney problems so I stopped taking it and the kidney issues went away. Be careful and get your kidneys checked often if you're taking it0

If you don't want to or can't take spironolactone, you should try Saw Palmetto. It should do pretty much the same things (reduce testosterone, helps hirtuism and hair loss)
Like spiro, you cannot take it while pregnant though, so use with caution if anyone is TTC. I am, and I take it, but only for the first half of my cycle.0 -

This is most likely due to the fact it is also used to treat high blood pressure, not just for PCOS, so your blood pressure could be too low. Actually, when I was checking prices through my insurance's website, it asked if I was taking it for high blood pressure and there was no option for PCOS. It comes in a spiro/hctz combo too, which would make your symptoms worse. I'd make sure you didn't accidentally get that one (unless you needed the hctz for high blood pressure too).0
