Glucose Tolerance Test

I recently saw an endocrinologist for the first time for my thyroid, and it turns out that she was also concerned about my PCOS, for which I've only been really seeing my gynecologist. Apparently hypothyroidism and PCOS are interrelated? Anyway, she wants me to have this glucose tolerance test to check for insulin resistance/prediabetes/etc, and I'm going in this morning to have this done.

Have any of you had the GTT? What was it like? I know that you have to drink a gross sugary drink and wait for hours for your blood to be taken. Anything else I should know? How quickly did you find out the results?

I've had it a few times. The lemon-lime one is the best tasting one at tolerably disgusting. :P Then you sit around from anywhere from one to three hours until you get your blood drawn (I only had the one hour, I got lucky). I didn't get my results until a follow up visit two weeks later.
  • Thanks for the reply. I'm at the doctor's office right now. I was given the lemon-lime flavor. The first sip seemed like it wasn't going to be so bad. But then I kept drinking and it was UGH. but I kept it down, thankfully, and now I wait. Thanks again for the response!

I had it recently because I'm pregnant and failed the one hour. It wasn't too bad until the end, then I got a little shaky since my test had to be fasting so I hadn't eaten anything (except the gross drink) for about 16 hours. Good luck!
