🏆Congratulations Challengers! This Winter marks our 54th season of the 5% Challenges! We started in Spring 2010 on SparkPeople, and successfully transitioned to My Fitness Pal. Thanks to Heidi (hicim705) and her crew for moving us here in 2020!
📅Our 2023 Winter 5% Challenge starts Saturday January 7th, 2023.
🌲 Winter is that season where we looked forward to the Christmas card white landscape, and now we want it gone. But January 1st is a time of new beginnings, a slower pace and planning for the rest of the year. With shorter days we turn to more indoor activities and we have to actively choose to keep moving. We can do that!
✈️2023 Winter 5% Travel Theme – Blue Zones - Hotspots for Longevity
A Blue Zone is a concept used to identify a demographic and/or geographic area of the world where people live measurably longer lives. We will find out how, where and why.
Our Winter 5% Living the Good Life (LTGL) theme. Regardless of how 2023 started for you, Jan 7th is the date to commit to being the best version of yourself. That date is the start of the 5% Challenge, and the date to make a resolution to yourself to prioritize your wellness.
This winter take an active role in promoting your health, well-being and happiness. The difference between health and wellness - health is a state of being, whereas wellness is the state of living a healthy lifestyle. To have that healthy lifestyle/wellness, each day you need time to focus on your exercise, food choices, relaxation, sleep, mental health, staying connected, and feeling positive about life.
You have a few days still to go, so get ready. Make 2023 your best year of wellness!
Your leaders will help/guide you in how we do the challenges. Wherever we travel regardless of season, it’s a lovely summer day, we are physically fit and have ease of motion.
The basic 5% Challenge requirements are recording - your weekly weigh ins, daily exercise minutes, and daily Living the Good Life Challenge points. If you are restarting your exercise and diet program, proceed at a pace you are comfortable with.
Some of the Challenges may be things you are already doing, and for that you are to be commended. It will be easy for you to contribute points to your team. For some of us, these Challenges really will challenge us as we work on developing healthy habits. Our last weigh in will be Saturday, March 4, 2023.
Although the LTGL Challenge changes weekly, Challengers are encouraged to do their best to continue each challenge throughout the entire 8 weeks. Enjoy!
