To get the most out of your weight loss journey, take a before picture of yourself for a Non-Scale Victory (NSV). At the end of the challenge take another picture so you can see the difference 5% makes. Thinking of that future picture can help you visualize success, as you think of how you will look 8 weeks later.
Before-and-after photos capture the little differences that you might miss each day. For many of us this can fuel the fire of self-motivation. It can be quite inspiring when you see how you look today and visualize how you will look 8 weeks later.
It might feel daunting at first, and that's okay. Honor this discomfort. When you look back on the "before" photos months or even years from now, you'll be so proud of how far you've come and the success you've achieved.
As you take that first shot, think this is the start of my weight-loss journey, and the perfect place to be. It's all positive from here on out, because you can only improve.
The most noticeable changes depend on your eating habits, exercise routine and how one affects the other. No matter your goals, taking before-and-after photos is an amazing way to track your progress. For instance, if you walk a lot, you may see that your legs have firmed up. If you are dieting your stomach may look slimmer with weight loss and less bloating.
It is motivating to take these before and after photos for each seasonal 5% Challenge. Think how you will look at the end of the year! This will be your digital scrapbook.
Suggestions
1) Save the outfit so you can wear it in your AFTER picture! Also do the same after pose.
2) Take vertical photos. This allows you to take a detailed photo that includes your entire body, from your head to your toes.
3) You may wish to do 3 pictures – front, side and back.
4) To make it fun you may wish to hold a paper with the date.
5) Take photos with your smartphone or camera. I like to do selfies in front of a mirror or use the timer on my phone.
6) Stand up straight and avoid slouching. Keep your arms at your side and look straight ahead. And don't forget to smile!
Give yourself credit for taking the Before picture as you launch your 2023 Weight Loss Program. It shows you are committing to wellness this year!
