SPRING!
Oh what a lovely word that is! Here in Saskatchewan it is finally starting to look like Spring has arrived and I look forward to getting outside more for my exercise.
It's also the time when Spring Cleaning is on my mind. Everything is so dusty and dirty from the sand and salt that they have been pouring on the streets all winter. And, the extra daylight hours - I cannot say enough how happy the additional sunlight makes me.

What's on your Spring Cleaning Agenda this month?
I'm doing windows so I can get more sunshine!

Spring cleaning - There were a couple of articles in the NY Times and Washington Post this past week about spring cleaning and how it started back in the day when our heating systems were burning coal or wood and all that gunk built up inside the house. With the longer daylight hours in the spring/summer, people were able to see that grimy accumulation better and so they would deep clean all the surfaces to reset the house.
I'm a more "clean as you go" person, as well as "we have people coming over, we have to clean" person. I started to do a modified Fly Lady system and to zone cleaning, but never really got fully into the habit. I barely keep up with my daily and weekly cleaning habits. However, I would agree with the article in terms of the benefits since I get a sense of calm and peace with a clean house as well as get in extra move points on my watch. :-)5 -

I am planning to clean the balcony and get it ready for summer, also to clean the windows this weekend. We cleaned the inside of our car last weekend and the kitchen and living room last week. Today I cleaned and organized the kids room (as one of them was sick and I could not focus on work at home anyway). But I know it will be a mess again in a couple of days π5 -

Apr 17 Tracked but went over, didn't exercise today.
My Mother used to do a Spring and a Fall cleaning which was quite the ordeal, moving furniture in each room and cleaning carpets, washing walls, all surfaces inside of cupboards/closets etc.; mind you she was a stay-at-home parent. I'm more of a clean-as-you-go. I do my windows regularly. I haven't washed the walls since we painted 5 years ago but I spot clean regularly, especially around light switches, etc. Having said that, I just washed the walls in the main bathroom last month, the foyer closet walls last weekend and in December I washed the upstairs hallway walls. I used to try to wash all walls regularly but something had to come off the list once I went back to work full-time. I wet-cloth the baseboards, window & door trims regularly and keep an eye on the ceilings to keep them clear of cobwebs. My husband helps now with the housework; this is new since Covid. Such a relief. (But I still do the bulk of the housework. However because of that I leave the outdoor chores to him including skimming the pool which he likes to whine about ) It's taken me until just within the last 3 years to finally figure out how to clean a house quickly and efficiently - thanks to Instagram. On Friday I just quickly cleaned my oven using only baking soda and vinegar -- it was easier than running the self-cleaning oven button. I was shaking my head thinking of all the times I used the suffocating oven cleaner. Instagram has really taught me a lot of time saving tips. I've also invested in proper cleaning tools.6 -

Having a lot of work done on our house. Had to clear out most of 7 rooms for the window replacements.
Next up: painting inside & out and refinishing 5-6 roomsβ
Floors.
SO, we are getting rid of anything we donβt use and/or love.
We use a robot vacuum machine & mopper. That basically only leaves the stairs.
Toilets once a week along with setting out the trash/recycling bins.
We keep the kitchen very clean & our organized.
As weβve been moving furniture to accommodate the construction, we have uncovered & cleaned dusty items & formerly covered areas of the floor.
My plan is to keep decluttering until it is easy to keep the house clean & spacious.5 -
The household cleaning is ongoing in our home but there are bigger jobs that springtime definitely put me in the mindset to complete. Cleaning windows & washing draperies are definitely on the agenda. Decluttering the winter wear cupboard and getting rid of winter clothes that wonβt serve well next year is another. And then getting the spring/summer clothes out to switch wardrobes.
Right now weβve been trying to spend as much time getting outdoors in good shape for gardening again. The incoming snowstorm may create different priorities again for a bit, but weβll be out in the garden again in no time.

Inside I clean as I go throughout the year but there are a few things, like washing all the curtains and windows, that I like to do in the spring. Outdoors most of my spring cleaning has been completed over the past week. Raking and bagging leaves, cleaning debris from the flower beds and from the veggie garden.
