I am so happy to be here - yesterday was my First Anniversary! I'm going to start this week out like I am starting all over and introduce my new hip to walking. Start small and increase my steps every day.
Please share with me your experiences with surgery during your weight loss journey.9 -

I had a reverse shoulder replacement last July. The surgery went well as did recovery BUT
getting back up to speed on food and movement was miserable. At first not a lot of appetite as all I did was sleep and lay around. I am 67 yo and my energy was completely zapped by the anesthetic. I was determined to go back to work in 4 weeks (not my brightest idea) and I sat at work the first two weeks simply being a warm body.
I am having the other shoulder done next month and I am going to be approaching it a bit different. I know I need the rest, but I am going to push through as much of that "laying around" as I possible can. I believe that was my downfall.
Here I am 9 months later and just starting to get into a groove. Can't be doing that again. I am hopeful this accountability group will help me with the push.6 -
When I had the radial head re attached with screws almost 6 years ago it was at the beginning of summer. My exercised suffered and my lack of appetite probably saved me I am right handed and it was my right arm. I was 54 and didnβt always like asking for someone to cut up my food lol. I made it and by mid August was carefully back on my spin bike,

Congratulations on your first anniversary @CarolAnnM2 and on your successful second hip surgery! So happy for you that the wait is over and the healing can begin. π It is estimated that less than 20% of weight loss can be attributed to exercise so paying close attention to measuring and tracking would be particularly key as you move through this next
period. I have had multiple surgeries and have always been able to continue weight loss during recovery. Physiotherapy is intensive and often burns more calories than low level βregularβ activity. Lastly, good nutrition is key to healing well β so that has always been a wonderful motivator for me. Take good care.3 -
Happy anniversary @CarolAnnM2 !! Also congratulations on your successful second hip surgery. I've been extremely fortunate to not have needed any serious medical procedures so far. The closest has been having my wisdom teeth out.
I hope your recovery goes has you back to your better self in no time!3 -

1 pass day so far.
I had surgery in early 2020 β not while in weight loss mode but less than a year in maintenance.
I had a total abdominal hysterectomy β you donβt realise how much you use those core muscles until you canβt!
Exercise was a very slow process β very gradual increase in walking, couldnβt lift any thing heavier than a coffee cup for weeks.
As far as nutrition goes, my biggest issue was having to depend on my boyfriend for all the shopping and cooking for a while. He canβt cook and has a very limited understanding of good nutrition. I did stock up beforehand on easy cook/ready meals, and gave him shopping lists of fruit and veg. I also stocked up on protein bars, high fibre bars etc.

Exercise: 15 minutes MommaStrong, 5 minutes stretching (hey, better than 0), 40 minutes walk
Tracking: Planned the day except for dinner, then did not track deviations or out to dinner
Calories: Certainly over, with going out to dinner, though I think I ordered pretty sensibly
I have lost track of pass days but I am certainly over.
I have been fortunate enough to not have surgery during weight loss. I do struggle with my autoimmune disease with occasional flares. I think the thing is to honestly do the best you can, and forgive yourself when the best you can do is not good enough to get the results you want.

As far as surgery no. But definitely some injuries which limited my running and walking. I would say that your body uses more cals to heal than you think so make sure to give it enough nutrition post surgery while not over doing it. I noticed when I had the flu in 2018 that I expended a LOT more calories - my resting heart rate was 10 beats up for several weeks. So even though I was pretty much a zombie I was burning a lot of cals fighting the virus.4 -
