WELCOME to all walkers!

Happy April Fools Day :) No fooling 😁, it really is true that today it is time to start the new monthly challenge for April 2023!

This group is open to any and all walkers. The majority of us use Leslie Sansone's Walk At Home method using DVDs or by streaming, as well as various other kinds of workouts at home or at a gym. Indoor choices might be the treadmill, as well as other walking instructors, or strength, yoga or many other exercise programs available.

Outdoors there are also those great walks or hikes on the trails or pathways that are available to us, or a walk in our neighborhood. All of these many options count toward our steps, miles, or minutes. However you get your walk in, come on in and join us! Post your strength workouts or steps/ miles/ minutes that you have walked, however you walked and/ or worked out, it is all good!
The goal that you choose is your own personal goal for this month πŸ‘ŸπŸ“….

If you find this group any time during the month it doesn't matter which day of the month that you join in. Just set your goals to reflect what you hope to accomplish during the remaining days of this month. It is never too late to join in :) , you are always welcome!

    April Goals

    Mileage tracked: 75 miles
    Apple Watch: Complete my Exercise ring 4 times this month.

    We're beginning April wet. Rain and a bit blustery. We had some nice storms go through yesterday evening.
    We have several spring projects to keep us busy. New storm door install, carpet removal, cleaning, and organizing the unfished part of the basement. Whoever said owning a house was the American dream probably did not own a house. πŸ˜‰

    April showers bring May flowers! So, what do April snows bring????? Hopefully, May melt!!! :laugh:

    April Goal: Begin 15 minute, 1 mile Leslie walks and work up to 45 minutes 3 mile walks by the end of the month! Also, exceed last month's 66.5 miles. Can I do it??? My hamstrings and thighs said "NO WAY" :noway: " this morning, but my cardio said, "It's possible!" I am going with the heart! :heart:

    @texasgardnr My heart goes out to you because I know how hard it is to want to do something and simply not have the energy to do it. I don't think the lasting effects of COVID are getting enough attention and the vaccines do not help with those. Don't worry, I'll be here regularly again now. I am through the worst of my "adjustments" and my DH's medical issues are under control, so we are all good. My daughter-in-law has since changed as the elimination diet did not really impact anything, except her Hashimoto and soy is her culprit there, so she is back to eating what she wants. For her, food was not the answer she had hoped.

    @Deeder522 Wait until you remove the carpet! Your house will smell brand new! :laugh: We are always amazed at how differently our houses have smelled when we tossed out carpet. Remodeling is no joke, and I am living in a construction zone right now as we are tiling the floor downstairs, but when it is done, it is so wonderful! What I hate is things like: the hot water heating stopped working; the washer is spewing water on the floor; the refrigerator is warm etc etc etc!!! Those things make me crazy about home ownership and I wish I had a landlord to call!!!! :laugh: Meh, we get through it!

    Enjoy April you two while I will wait for the loons to return to the North Country, which is our first sign that spring is definitely coming! :bigsmile:

    I am so out of shape ladies! My thighs are burning on a 1 mile walk and I am actually breaking a sweat. Good Grief!

    Rain today and it is 50F. A tiny little puddle of water has formed in the lake, just beyond the shoreline in front of my house. It is possible ... and it could be just teasing us, but spring might be on it's way! :laugh:
    No loons though.

    It never ceases to amaze me how fast the body responds to demands on it. Yesterday I sweating and having a hard time catching my breath and today, my thighs complained just a bit but that was all! I may be up to 30 minutes quicker than I think ... but ... not tomorrow! :laugh:

    More water, less ice and the sap in running like crazy in NY!!! :bigsmile:

    Wow, Zichab! Way to commit this week. Well Done!

    We have 60's & 70's in the forecast for next week. We took our winter tires off this week and the Summer tires are on. Last weekend we had some good storms come through. Nothing much happened until the evening after the storms when we lost power. DH had us up and running on the generator within an hour. Power was back around 2:30 AM although we didn't figure that out until 5 am.
    If you read this before Easter Sunday, wish me luck making a beef bone-in rib roast in my toaster oven. 😳😳😳 It's only the holiday's that I really miss having a full-size range/oven. πŸ˜£πŸ˜³πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ€­

    Today was rough as our 18 1/2 year old cat has developed what I believe is another colon blockage. He had one in Michigan when he was 13 and it was surgically removed, but he is too old for that now. We had a rough night last night and he has been at the vet all day and will be there tonight because she wants to do xrays. I had to do things like crossword puzzles, You Tube vids etc today to keep my mind off what is probably going to be an end of life issue for him and I just could not face Happy Leslie. Tomorrow may not be any better, but I will get back to it next week for sure. In the meantime, I am going to consistently log in here and post my miles so grief does not derail me.

    Oh my gosh @Deeder522 ! Props to you for even attempting a bone-in rib roast without a standard oven!!! That takes some mad skills!!! :+1: Personally, I gave up on beef roasts of any kind years ago since no matter what I do, they are over cooked! :grumble: My DH does steaks and we call it good! :laugh: Good luck and please let me know how you do it and how it turned out OK?????

    We have what we call "sap weather." It was 38F today and is going down to 17F tonight. Tomorrow is forecast to be 42F during the day and 16F at night. Snow and ice melt slowly, but the sap runs really well when there are warm days and cold nights so it works out. Thankfully, no snow is predicted for the next week so there is that! :bigsmile:

    This may be the best day I have had in a LONG time!!!! The vet called early this morning to tell us that our cat had overcome his "blockage" and was eating like crazy and full of life! She had him on an IV all night with anti vomit meds and stool softeners and it turns out, he did not have a blockage!!!! He is home and doing nothing but sleeping! Poor old guy was worn out, but it was so wonderful to have him home and see him sleeping in his favorite spot. Our vet says he is living so long because he is "well loved." I know at 18 we do not have many more years, but we will enjoy all of them that we have for sure!

    As if that was not enough good news, we went out to get meds for our cat and spotted a loon on the lake, so they are back and that heralds spring for sure up here. Loons need open water to take off and fly and they do not come back to the lake if there is any danger that the open water will freeze over again. It is also going to be 70F this coming week so the ice will surely go out. Loons know these things! :laugh:

    All and all, this week ended on a high note! I have cooked all day for dinner tomorrow and am anxious to hear how your rib roast turned out @Deeder522 ! Happy Easter to you both! :bigsmile:

    The weather this week looks lovely with a mixture of temps in the high 60-70s.

    My roast turned out AMAZING. I did a dry cure of salt and pepper overnight in the fridge. Then 3 hours at 200. It rested for about 30 minutes before finally 20 minutes at 450. I was over the moon all day with the results.

    Oh my Gosh @Deeder522 ! You did that in a toaster oven????? You are an awesome cook that is for sure. The sear you got on that beef was beautiful! You can be super proud of that one for sure! KUDOS!!!!

    Kind of a dull day here. Cat is on the mend .. eating ... sleeping ... peeing ... ya know ... being a cat.

    Talk about house woes though! My DH was trying to trim out our new windows (well, new is an figurative word as they have been in for 1 1/2 years :laugh: ) and he was having the world's worst trouble. Finally, he put a level on them and found out that they were installed at a slant and are not plumb, but the fireplace next to them is, of course, perfectly plumb! He spent all day trying to figure out how to trim the windows so they do not look like they will fall out if you are looking the fireplace! Every window was installed perfectly except the ones by the fireplace. He had a very frustrating day!!! Owning a house is NOT for the faint of heart that is for sure! :laugh: !

    Enjoy the nicer weather! Hopefully, my 3' snow banks will be much smaller by the end of the week! :bigsmile:

    I need to work harder on developing this Leslie habit again because I totally FORGOT IT yesterday, BUT, I think I had a reasonable reason. :blush:

    We were supposed to go downstate on Thursday to see our financial advisor and we thought it might be a good time to drop off our car to the shop as it has been poping out of gear going up hill and when we park on a slant, it will not stop rolling no matter what gear we are in. It was diagnosed as needing a clutch and all the fixin's that go with it and would not be ready until Monday. No problem as we planned to have it in the shop while we were away and we have the truck. On our way home from dropping the car off (our shops is 35 minutes away), the truck started to make this growling sound that no one should hear coming from their vehicle and it only went away when we turned right. We called our shop and he said, "That is a wheel bearing and the only place you should drive it is right to the shop! We can get you in but not until Friday!!! Hmm, this was a HUGE problem as we live 50 minutes away from the nearest car rental, so that was not an option as we could not get there with no truck! So, we went from having 2 vehicles to NONE! :laugh: We tried a number of scenarios, but ended up cancelling our trip downstate and leaving our truck in the driveway until Friday! In all of the chaos, I completely forgot to do my work out! :grumble:

    The silver lining is that since I can't go anywhere for at least 2 days ( and more realistically it will be Monday before the truck is back so 5 more days), maybe I can work up to 2 miles with Leslie this week! There is always hope! :bigsmile:

    It was 83F here today! Talk about shock! :laugh: Of course, the ice has left, but we still have some snowbanks. No doubt, they will be gone tomorrow as it is supposed to be in the 80s as well. They are warning people to be careful swimming as the water temp is still super cold! Good grief there was ice in the water this morning! Only crazy people would go swimming now. :wink: It is supposed to snow next Monday so the weather is just nuts! Thank goodness for Leslie and indoor walking! Stay cool! :bigsmile:

    I am at the point where I need to up my miles from 1 to 2 next week. I cannot believe how quickly the body responds to aerobic workouts as I am not even breaking a sweat and 10 days ago I was dying. Human biology is amazing!

    @texasgardnr and @Deeder522 -Do you two think that the cost of MFP has driven people away and that is what happened to this board? I know my sons and daughters-in-law dropped MFP because they found Cronometer and like it better. They also were not at all happy with the Under Armor take over of MFP and were LIVID over the shut down of Endomondo. I really don't care as I only use the free parts of MFP anyway (and all my recipes are in it as well), but maybe others got annoyed as well and jumped ship?

    Still have tiny snowbanks fighting for their lives! :laugh: Stay cool! :bigsmile:

    @zichab I haven't been happy with the changes made to MFP. My biggest one is making the Barcode scanner a paid feature. I've re-downloaded Lose It, which I used before MFP but I don't have a community over there.

    We had BEAUTIFUL weather last week including 2 days in the 80's. It's snowing today. πŸ˜†

    The carpet has been removed from the den. The linoleum is in okay condition. Okay enough that it doesn't have replaced or recovered right away. Here's Before with the carpet and the "after the 1st round of clean up".

    I realize I have not posted in a couple of days and I promise I'll be back this week. Sadly, we had to put our beloved cat to sleep on Monday. We have not been without a cat in our house for 36 years and it has been so HARD! He was 18 1/2 years old and got us through the loss of 2 other beloved cats, retirement, moving, COVID and a couple heath scares my DH had. We were finally all on an even keel and happier than we have been in a couple of years, and he has been fine through it all. He only developed a real problem last week, but he went down fast after rallying for a few days. I promise I'll be back later in the week when I can work out again. :'(

    Thank you so much Deeder! It has been more of a loss than either my DH or I expected to be honest. Just today, I finally was able to go downstairs and clean out all the litter pans (we had 3 for 1 cat! :s ) and I took the unused litter out to the garage for my DH as he wanted it for spills. This week has been a bit better, but I am still not back into my Leslie swing. :cry:

    That linoleum you have is EXACTLY like what we had in our cellar and upstairs laundry room in MI! Someone must have gotten a heck of a sale on that stuff! It wears like iron! I left it in the laundry room and just waxed it so it shined like the new stuff. BTW, I love the brick on your fireplace!!!! I so love the gray mixed with red bricks! We had that in our downstate NY home and it was the prettiest fireplace we ever had. Our MI fireplace was made with kind of a pink brick and I never really liked it, although the fireplace was massive, so that was cool. In this house, there are two of them and they are red brick, which is super annoying. I may use your picture and paint some of the bricks gray as I think it will really make this mid-century modern fireplace pop.

    I think a lot of people left MFP. The cost is ridiculous compared to others of the same quality. I may move to Lose It or Cronometer, but as you say, none of them have a Leslie Board with all of us cool people on it! :laugh:

    I am helping my DH finish our downstairs den and office so I may not get back to Leslie again until May, however, "I'll be back!!!" posting before then for sure! Hang in there and keep that Apple watch humming! :bigsmile:

    April ended up being a good month for me to move and do things. 😁
    I've been trying out Cronometer. I forgot about it until you mentioned it @zichab. It has features I like especially more tracking of nutrients. So I'll try keeping with that for a while while still posting in the group.

    Well, I did not accomplish my main goal this month, but I did exceed my total miles over last month so that is something!

    DH and I are finally finishing up our den and office and it should be done this week so that I can set up my workout area like I had it in MI. I do miss the MI house for that as I had a great workout area. I can also finally unpack and shelve all my books and it should be a good month for me. So, I am thinking I will get back to walking and later in the month add some strength training. We'll see how the month progresses!

    @Deeder522 My kids all love Cronometer and it syncs with their Garmins flawlessly, unlike MFP which has always been glitchy when it comes to linking. I suspect it might be where a lot of our MFP people went as well. There forums do seem a bit basic though. I can see why you like posting here.

    I read through all the posts last night, but it was too late to try to make a reply.

    Thank you for both of you being here in April. I just never got it together to post here. I was really happy that both of you could be here and hold the fort down. Again, thank you!

    You both had me bouncing between laughing out loud and then literally being on the verge of tears, as I read several of the posts. Many hugs for the sad and difficult times πŸ’•.

    I really enjoyed the posts about nature and spring on its way, and renovating and fixing up older houses. A northern spring is such a lovely thing to experience after a cold winter.

    It is getting late again so I'll do a catch up post then we all will know what has been going on.

    When I went over my April exercise calendar, I realized that I took 15 additional 'easy' or 'rest' days besides my normal 'rest' day on Sundays. Oh, my, I did not realize that until I started to write this. So that tells me that it actually was a difficult month again, and helps me to understand what has been going on with me now.

    During April I purposefully walked 14 times, mostly indoors and sometimes outdoors. The length of times vary of course. 4 times I worked in the yard/ garden! 17 times I found other ways of being intentionally active including errands, housework etc. I do walk as much as possible during the day such as not sitting while a commercial is on, for example. That's my April in a nutshell.

    @zichab, WoW!!! You started back doing Leslie walks! I am so proud of you!

    @Deeder522, Yay! You completed your exercise rings and tracked a bunch of miles!

    The roast that you made in your toaster oven had me wishing I could reach into the computer and take a bite or two of it πŸ˜‹.

    I'll make my best effort to hang out here in May, with you both.
