WONGA! DO you get these people on your ad's?

KICK WONGA OFF MFP... Lets kick these vampires off MFP... They prey on the weak and people who do not understand interest rates and their full policies... PS. I have never and would ever use such a vampire company. Getting people in debt, MORE in debt...

WHO SAYS YES! KICK OFF WONGA!

The only way I can think of costing the company more money, is when you see there advert, click on it, they may pay per click and emailing MFP HQ... ANY OTHER IDEAS?

I never see those ads, all I get are funeral plans & Argos, plus some for ladies shoes, all seems random to me

I do not agree with your view, easy to jump on bandwagon, but where do you suggest people with ruined credit file, no bank account and no savings go for cash in an emergency?

If anyone is unfortunate enough to find themselves in this position the last place they should go is one of these Pay Day Loan companies. The situation will only get worse. Surely a better plan would be to get some advice from organisations like Citizens Advice or other debt advice organisations as to how they might manage their situations. The interest levels charged by these loan companies is prohibitive. There is help out there run by ethical organisations. There may be other options such as emergency grants from Social Services etc, help from food banks etc. Pay Day loan companies pray on the vulnerable and should be avoided at all costs.

Generally, the ads you see on MFP are tailored to your browsing history and where you log on from.

When I log on at work, a lot of the ads I see are in Dutch (I work for a dutch company and internet apparently goes through their servers). I also see ads for running shoes, hotels and bridesmaid dresses, so no prizes for guessing what I spend my lunchtimes looking up...!

I actually think that the payday loan companies are pretty upfront about being a short-term solution provider. I think the issue is with financial education...possibly starting in schools! I know I had no concept of interest rates and money until I was 19-20 and powering through my first credit card.

No Wonga ads here...and if there were I'd ignore them.

Lol...Farway....I'm not sure what those ads say about you?! Mine today are for Argos (treadmills), SmartDraw and bespoke stone staircases!

Next week it'll probably be car insrance as that's due so I'll be searching for deals online.

Seriously though, you'll never stop the likes of Wonga existing or advertising, the only way to help the vulnerable is to educate them, and offer good alternatives.

Hate WONGA! All those pay day loan companies should be got rid of, they just get people into massive debt. I can understand why someone might need money quickly, e.g. sudden car repair bill and savings account takes a few days to transfer money to current account. BUT there has got to be better options than signing up to something with 100000% APR!

Ads are definitely targeted to your search history. When I first signed up all I got was links to fad diets and weird diet tips (5 foods to never eat WTF), then I kept on seeing chiminea shops after I bought my dad one for his birthday, right now it is all running shoes and clothes as I have needed to buy a whole lot of new stuff! I tend to get finance stuff when I have been googling for a new mortgage, savings or insurance. I have even had pages full of ads for plumbing supply stores when I was getting a new bathroom put in at my house.

Kind of amuses me to see how they change (I never bother to click on any of them!)
  • I had Wowcher, Mens clothing, and Wiltshire foods... as I went to post, I now have quintiles asking if I am an overweight Non-smoker, who could take part in clinical trials and be compensated £3,500! :drinker:

Better than the half naked cartoon woman I usually have.

After posting: I had Wonga, BeeLoans, then the Money Advice Service... :noway: Hypocritical? Just a little.

I don't judge people who use these companies - its usually a result of lack of knowledge or they have a poor credit rating and feel they've nowhere else to go. What I dislike is that some mortgage lenders are not now lending to anyone who has EVER used one of these facilities. My son just finished university and he didn't use them, but most of the law students in his year regularly used payday loan companies. So you've a year of law graduates, who hopefully will be good earners, professionals, and might not be able to get mortgages! For banks to decline mortgages to everyone who has ever used these loans is plain wrong - the average 18 year old student hasn't much of a clue about finance and is just looking at the short term. They don't realise they're messing up their future for the sake of £100.....

What are these ads you speak of? I have no ads on any site... might have something to do with using Firefox with adblock plus installed

Step 1) Browse M&S, Debenhams etc. for bras and lingerie

Step 2) Open MFP and enjoy the view while you log your cals and browse forums

    Problem solved.

I think there should be tighter regulation on pay day loans generally and that includes advertising. I don't get ads for them on MFP, but I do when I'm playing Scrabble on my phone. So although were are a loquacious lot, we are clearly also in debt.

I often get that 'one weird trick' advert with the shrinking lady and the one that's on my screen now is for Magnum ice creams. I think I know what that weird trick is...

If its on a PC i would recommend some ad-blocking extensions, Adblock is pretty popular, Dont Track me is another and Disconnect, all these work very well together and just sit in the background and keep your footprint on the internet a little smaller.

No one likes all the adverts on any website and i really dont know anyone who actaully clicks on the damm things.
