Up at 4 AM to start smoking brisket and beef ribs. Wrestled with the idea of smoking all day yesterday and just warming up today, but it the brisket is a small flat and dino ribs only take 6-7 hours, plus an hour to rest. I think I should be OK for 2 pm lunch.
Did I mention that me BIL got his prostate biopsied and diagnosed with cancer? 60 yrs old. He is trying to decide radiation vs radical prostectomy. He is leaning towards the MRI guided radiation technique.
I have recheck with me Urology guy tomorrow to discuss blood work that I haven't seen yet. Thankfully my prostate palpated normal, but I asked for testosterone testing.
Thinking of those that gave all today.

Good morning!
There is no way to thank those that gave their all for us. I love that picture, Lee.
I hope that there is not much on tap today. I really over did it a bit yesterday. But, all of the yard work is done. There will just be inside work today. I will have to see if I have enough energy for the kayak.
I've never had a prostrate exam that I am aware of. I really need to do that.
Have a great day!0 -
Mornin' men.
My doctor told me at my last visit that mid-70's men shouldn't bother with prostate tests because the cancer they might get will take so long to grow they'll be dead long before that from something else. Not in so many words, but her take on latest research. Good gawd.
Lee, I can smell those ribs from here... I think you did tell us about yer BIL. Me DB had his removed 10+ years ago, robotic surgery in CT. He also is an AA guy, might be close to 40 years himself. Still goes to meetings, in rough periods 2-3 a week.
When I was in college, a cousin who had volunteered for Vietnam went back twice after getting wounded and sent home. Third time was fatal. A young football star and neighborhood friend who grew up 3 houses away from mine. We have forgotten the reason we fight for freedom and fairness and our ideals, that our country was founded on solid principles like no other, and now focus too much on just the failures of its people and leaders. Nothing is perfect, but please -- let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Went to a piano concert yesterday in a tiny church in Ashburnham, historical music on a piano built in 1800's. Have wanted to take DGK's who study piano sometime, but went alone to see how it would be. Piano was great, plus an historical clarinet, but the German opera singer nearly broke the windows with her loud voice. Yikes. Will make sure they don't have a singer if I take GK's next time.0 -
Will post a picture of piano gizmo when built, for the curious here's my sketch:1

Good morning gentlemen.
Always a pretty somber day, for me. I mourn those we have lost - and those who have lost so much of themselves, too. Some combat deaths take years.
No plans for the day, other than spending a little time in the shop. I have a cherry bowl on the lathe, I want to finish. It will have legs, when done.0 -
Loss several friends during Vietnam and uncles due to agent orange, and asbestos in Navy.
Rode in "Ride for America" last year, may go watch as motorcycles ride in this morning.
Praying first day goes GREAT tomorrow, Steve, that you enjoy company and job.
Had prostrate issues back in 2003, been good since then till check last week PSI 3 times what it has been. Some cancers can take years to effect body, have seen several pass in less than a year where metastatic from prostrate.
Looks interesting Mike,
Fixed ribs yesterday, not planning on fixing much today.0 -
Good Morning
" Some combat deaths take years" Well said Dave. I did street ministry in SF for over 10 years. So many vets. "Papa" was a Sargent in Vietnam. He was on patrol. Very few survived. He lost his leg. We could only pray for him when he wasn't stoned. He was lost. One night I was praying with a strung out vet who served as a sniper. He cried in my arms. He only saw himself as a killer. Our lack of quality, proactive mental care for our vets is beyond understanding. Invisible scars that slowly kill.
Heading to the movies today with Heather. Traditional grilling today. Just burgers.0 -
Well said Dave well said. I remember a dear young man of 18 who went off to Viet Nam and came back drinking a 5th of whiskey each day. Hope he has recovered.
I plan to go outside at 10:45 for the Air National Guard flyer with F-15 jets from the 142nd wing.0
