Lithium - fun with Lithium

I've had bipolar for over 20 years now. Been on every med known to the profession it seems. I was put on lithium around 2000 or 2001. Although it helped me overall I gained 70 POUNDS - count 'em - 70 POUNDS just from that one med. I was frustrated and felt helpless because I needed to take the medication to feel okay but I was frustrated at the extra "poundage" it put on my body. Plus I had two children, one in 2001 and one in 2004. I only gained 22 lbs. with the first one and lost my baby weight within 2 weeks (which was REALLY cool).
I'd like to open this thread to people's discussions on this helpful but often weight-gaining medication. What are your experiences with it?

Been on Lithium for many years and also seroquol and I have gained plenty for sure. I found this site and trying to buckle down and take control back as much as possible. Started these meds in 2006.0

I have been on Seroquel XR for over 2 years, tried them with other meds like (lithium and Lamictal) but it didn't seem to help much, instead I felt like a "zombie" and was always sleeping and to top it off I gained like 90lbs! Now, I'm on Seroquel and I can say I've Learned to stay in the "middle" (not too maniac or too depressed) Now I have energy, I want to do things, ect... yea some days are tough but I manage to shake it off. Oh and I've tried Abilify with (lithium and Lamictal) bad bad bad! my anxiety level was a 10!! I couldn't stay calmed at all! was horrible. lol0
