Introducing Myself and My Problems :P

Hi everyone,

I am 36 weeks and 4 days pregnant with my second baby, 5'7" and weighing about 159 at the time.

Let me start with my fitness history. I went through high school weighing about 128-130 lbs. I was a cheerleader and dancer. I worked hard, but never paid attention to what I ate. I didn't have to with all the calories I burned!

Then 3/4 of the way through high school, (starting college 1/2 way through), I met my husband. Just before graduating, I realized we were expecting. I got really lazy and ate a lot more than my norm. Unsurprisingly, I weighed 184 lbs at the end of my pregnancy. I thought nothing of it. In fact, I was kind of proud!.. until I realized what damage I had done after I gave birth.

For 6 months I worked very hard. I did the Insanity program along with the Elite Nutrition Guide. I came out thinner than I had been before, but the same weight. Guessing everything went to my boobs lol.

1 year later we find out we're expecting this baby! I have to say, I weigh 17+ lbs less than I did at this point in pregnancy with my first. I'm so happy! But also a little defeated. I didn't want to gain more than 25 lbs, but I must say, if it wasn't for this site, I probably wouldn't have done that well.

I consume about 1500-1700 calories per day because my little girl makes it hard. I eat super clean, lean and balanced. I work out when I can AND chase a toddler. I drink upwards of 70 oz of water per day. Despite it all, I find myself gaining 2.5 lbs a week! It's crazy! Anyone else feeling like their hard work is NOT paying off?

I'm thinking it is either because of all the water I drink, or the fact that most of my eating has to be after her bed time. :/

Weight gain in pregnancy defies my logic. With my first 2 pregnancies I started off overweight and gained about 30 lbs with both eating what I wanted for the most part. This pregnancy i started off at a healthy weight and am being more conscious about what I eat and exercising regularly and the numbers on the scale keep going up. Last month I gained 6 lbs so i really started being serious about eating healthy foods and staying within my calorie limits and, guess what? The numbers are still going up! I was hoping not to gain anything this month or at max 2 lbs. As of this morning I was up 16 lbs at 20 weeks pregnant. I am hoping some of it was water weight due to the sodium from the day before and that it will go down. Its like I can be doing everything right and the # on the scale still goes up. If I eat to much it goes up, if i eat too little it goes up, If i eat somewhere in between it still goes up. I just tell myself that as long as I am doing what I am supposed to then I will be alright, definitely better then if I eat whatever I want and give up. Wishing u much luck! You are almost at the end, hang in there!

Thank you! It's a real mystery right? Hoping there is only one baby in there. I will post another belly picture soon so you can see why I feel that way. :P

You are correct in that there is no logic to the weight you put on in pregnancy. You are not in control of it. You will take on as much as you need to. The difference is whether that weight comes from healthy sources or unhealthy sources. If you live on pizza, chips and chocolate then you'll still be carrying all the weight two/three months after birth, whereas if you eat healthily there's more chance of any extra weight being gone 8-12 weeks after delivery.

I think this sums it up well and puts things in perspective!

Yes! I feel the same way. First tri I couldnt do much because i was so sick but second tri i am feeling great back to normal routine but not eating the same paleo diet because I am SO hungry.. Calories are still the same i even lowered them but i am still gaining!! I have no idea how its possible! I just have to tell myself my body will remember how NOT to be pregnant! And the weight gain won continue :P Keep up the good work mama!
  • Thank you for the encouragement ladies! :)
I just realized that I have stopped gaining at the 2.5/week pace! I was going back on my records and I've only gained maybe a lb in the past 3 weeks. What a relief! As for the weird 2.5/week trend. Yeah that is a mystery because I eat a healthy diet except on weekends or when people visit us.
