marathon training + 5x5?

Hey everyone
I came across the 5x5 method and really want to try it - I'm ridiculously weak and want to be & look strong. BUT - I've signed up for a marathon in April. I'm only running 7.5 miles at the moment so obviously I've got a long way to go. In your experience, is it feasible to try this program? I accept that both my running and strength training would take a hit by doing both, which is ok by me but only if I'm not going to injure myself/ not be able to progress at all on either! I'm sure the 5 x 5 is ridiculously hard work, so I imagine responses will be "wait til the marathon's over"? Anyway, any comments would be really appreciated

Are you new to running, strength training or both?
Strength training will help your running, but it will all come down to scheduling and recovery. A popular way to cover it is running in the morning and then weight training in the evening.
You need to make sure you are getting adequate sleep and food, and once the numbers on the bar start getting big and the distance running longer you may need to drop down to two times a week for SL as you won't be able to back off your running as you already have an event booked up.
Some people can handle running and weight training others just can't get adequate recovery, so it will all come down to listening to your body0
