Fitbit Alta intermittent sync

I have an older fitbit Alta HR which was working perfectly until I got a new Samsung galaxy 24 phone and now it's only syncing 1-2 times a day. I've removed it an re-synced it several times but it doesn't help. Any ideas? I don't want to buy a new one when this one is working except for the app.
