So my Charge 6 suddenly quit updating my mileage last week about the time Google did away with the fitbit website dashboard. It basically did two things. #1 it turned off the GPS on all runs and walks so I had to turn that back on, and it also changed my step length while walking to 0. It took me a while on the App to find where that was, but once I fixed the GPS setting (on the device) and the walking stride length (on the APP) it is back to providing accurate mileage.
The funny thing is that there was no description of the changes - they just happened. And at first I thought I had accidently changed them myself but it takes quite a bit of menu searching to find the step length setting so I am 100% certain the APP update made the changes by Google and not by me.
