Humidity is 91% in my condo--I had the windows open and fans going. Looks like a T-storm is immanent and it will warm up to 80 or so later with more rain on and off. Rest of week is upper 80s.
Got in a nice canoe ride yesterday. Several herons, an osprey and a loon. Always love seeing loons. Did a short hike along the shore after we'd paddled awhile. Saw evidence of several old rope swings that the state had sabotaged by cutting down the trees. Used to be half a dozen along this lake. "The fun police."
Will get a walk in before the heat sets in, if the rain holds off.0 -
Mornin' gents.
Yup. Super humid here too. Strangely cool, yet sticky.
Down another 2 lbs. I have an old medical balance beam scale and am looking forward to the day, I can move the big weight to the 200 mark and use the little weight to measure under 50 lbs. Only two more lbs to get under 250. I think I can, I think I can, I think can. I know I can.
Not sure how professional cooks can stay at healthy weights. I'm pretty sure I would struggle. I watch a lot of youtube videos on BBQ tips and techniques for whatever and I would say only 10% of those guys/gals look like they are at healthy weights. I guess my dream of retiring to run a pit BBQ joint is not conducive for my need to manage a healthy weight. I'm stressing about smoking a brisket and a pork belly for an upcoming BBQ at the in-laws. I asked what I could do to help and of course my Texas style brisket is legend. So I am stressing about how I am going to manage my see-food/I eat it problem. Especially since when I do a brisket, I trim a lot of fat and then render it ( I give most of it away ), but the crackling created during the rendering is SO GOOD.
So sorry about Rita's appointment cancellation. That happened to me with my first Rheumatologist more than once. One of the many reasons I switched Rheum docs.
Onward and downward ;-)

Good morning!
We are still under excessive heat warnings here. We could see heat indexes at or above 115 today. I got up at 6, well Frankie woke me at 6. Before coffee or anything, I went out to water at the cemetery, and then at home. I'm just now getting back in. It is already very humid and nasty out. You know it is going to be hot when it is above 80 at 6:00 a.m.
Do woodchucks keep skunks away? I swear that I have been smelling skunk now, but maybe not in our yard. I have seen no other mates or offspring of Woody. I am sure he is enjoying himself at the lake. He might miss the garden buffet, however.
Groceries are the only other thing on my list for today.
Have a great day!0 -
Good morning gentlemen.
Keep going, Lee. You can do it.
Got up yesterday, fasted until I got to the hospital, went to the window to check in ... and was told my appointment was canceled, just like Rita's the day before. Once again, we were told they called but couldn't get through. We went up to the patient relations office to voice our displeasure. I often don't answer calls, but always check my voicemail, and no messages were left. The calls to make or confirm appointments are not from the clinic, they are outsourced. As with every case I have ever seen in 50 years associated with the Army, when government employees are replaced with outside contractors quality of service goes in the toilet - and costs to the taxpayers usually end up going up, too. Anyway, I have another appointment on Thursday.
When we were at the commissary, on post, they had chicken drumsticks on sale for 60 cents a pound. Haven't seen a price like that in years. We bought three big packs, 15 pounds worth. Rita has me grilling a Bunch of them tonight. She put them in marinade last night. We have corn on the cob to grill, too.0 -
Good Morning,
Up at 6:30 took Pablo for long walk before it got too hot. Took a cart trail through closed golf course, saw all sorts of wildlife: deer, geese, fox, osprey, beavers and one rattlesnake. Had heard we had some out there but figured most thought all snakes were rattlers, like neighbors who killed my rat snakes I try and keep around to keep field mice, chipmunks, and other varmints away. Cannot believe neighbor was about to kill a King Snake, and in old neighborhood they killed a black racer.
Under heat advisory for balance of week.
Need to go to drug store to pick up drugs that doctor has ordered, need to show I have Friday before surgery, I still have some pain meds left from knee.
Will cut grass tomorrow hoping it will then go till shoulder will allow me to cut again.
I generally do not trim brisket before smoking because I want grease to keep meat moist but will trim excess fat before slicing and then render fat, better than meat and I consider my treat for cooking.0 -
Good Morning
Our temps remain well in the humane range which makes walking rather pleasant. I did was able to replace the pump on the Sleep Number bed without much trouble until it came to syncing the new remote which was a lot of trial and error. Instructions were sparse. I added a few chores but yesterday we watched a lot of The Olympics. I am headed over to bring some of the boxes I didn’t sort through when we stuck stuff in storage and shut down moving. I figure I at least can work on them if we have the Games on.0 -
Sounds like a wonderful canoe ride Mike.
Yikes Steve heat index over 115deg is crazy hot!
I am with you Sam don't kill the snakes. We had a garter snake outside with our church service on the lawn and he was just gently taken away. No big deal.
Tomorrow is suppose to be our hot day maybe 98deg or so.0
