So I have this weird pain...

I've tried Dr. Google and I can't seem to find anything to relate to what I'm experiencing. I've had this weird pain on and off for a few months now. Imagine you are standing up with your hands on your hips, it hurts right where your thumb would sit on your waist. The pain is in the fleshy part in between the top of my hip bone and below my rib cage. The pain is not on the outside or where I can touch it, like in a muscle. I can push all over and nothing hurts but if I bend a certain way or when I climb stairs I feel it. It's only on the right side and I would describe it as a burning ache. And it comes and goes, it will flare up and really hurt and then go away completely. It's not so bad that I am taking anything for it, it's more of a bother than anything else. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or have experienced something similar??

Is that your appendix? I'm clearly Dr. Stupid, but all the TV shows I've seen with that pain end up being the appendix. Or is it gall bladder? I dunno, one of the "useless" things we were born with but evolved away from needing.

I thought appendix too - I know that it is on the right side, and approximately where you are talking.

It can become inflamed from different things, and be like that for a while, but if it ruptures, look out because sepsis is your next stop.

The way I read it I doubt the appendix. I believe the appendix is more in the front than the side (IIRC it is a line with the right nipple). Like others though I am not a doctor. From the description I would say maybe the liver is getting compressed while running? The liver in on the right side and is close the muscle wall so it could be the culprit. I have had similar pains on that side too but I always thought that is what runners refer to as side splints or a stitch. Are you slouching while running?

Same, I had a grumbling appendix and trust me the flares from it were like vicious food poisoning, but the day it truly ruptured was worse than child labour pains. Doesn't sound like appendix. If I were to guess it would be a strain (common for people who carry things around all day, i.e moms with small children, labour related jobs). If its been bothering you on and off for a while, my suggestion would be not to do any back exercises for a week, also including core or leg work that requires twisting bending movements, reduce your loads when carrying groceries, don't mow the lawn, don't stretch it doing yoga etc. It'll heal if you let, if it was intrabdominal causing it for whatever reason you would probably not be able to have pushed through your current work load, so my guess is strain. ;)

I don't think it's any internal organs, it's not deep enough for that. I had thought it was from carrying my gigantic toddlers around, since I always carry them on that side. So maybe it's just a muscle strain? I'll try not to lift or twist for a while and see if that helps.

I had my babies 12 months apart and was often carrying one on each hip! Lol, sigh, my hips will never bee the same. Resting helped me, haven't had sciatica since I stopped carrying them and a huge diaper bag around everywhere, but I also took the time to do active recovery to correct muscle imbalances, it only slightly bothers me when I'm really stressed or hormonal now. Hope it heals up for you nicely!

Have you tried a foam roller or specific stretches?

Not really because I can't really stretch it out. I've tried to but it isn't like a sore muscle. Like I said it's a weird pain. It's internal but doesn't feel like an internal organ.

Unless you have had it a long time OR it is restricting you somehow (or modifying your gait) I would just wait it out
