Well, DGS had a great time. He seemed unfazed by the 30 ish people that came for his party. His smash cake was a huge success. Had to strip him down to his birthday suit and spray him down with the hose outside afterwards, LOL.
The brisket was pretty amazing, the best result I have had in spite of having to do the whole smoke in the remnants of Debbie and having to rely on good old fashioned instant read thermometer since the size of the brisket (24lbs untrimmed, probably 18 lbs trimmed) and wifi problems rendered the remote temperature probes undependable. This is the first time I injected the flat, and it probably won't be the last time. There wasn't a dry edge and the bark was phenomenal. Usually the production of a nice bark causes the thin edge of the flat to dry out. Nothing left and lots of compliments. Big success.
DDIL's dad, we call him Sully, made some really good burgers and dogs. Those disappeared too.
I am in the process of trying to track everything I ate and drank. Its not pretty.
Onward and Downward ;-)

Good Morning,
Sounds like a great celebration with tasty brisket,
Continues HOT,
Need to go get ready for church, for some reason I take about an hour to shower, shave and dress; shoulder has greatly slowed me down.0 -
FYI...I tracked 82 points, and that is probably on the conservative side.
Great you are getting out and about, Sam.

Good morning gentlemen.
Brisket sounds great, Lee.
I sauteed some our garden zucchini with onion and garlic in a bit of bacon fat last night. Somehow vegetables you have grown always taste better than store-bought.
Loved the Olympics coverage, yesterday. Looking forward to the women's basketball this morning. Time works out well. I think I can watch the whole game before we head to church.

Good morning!
Lee, I'm happy that your celebration and your brisket went well. It sounds like a great time was had by all.
Sam, I'm praying that you are in full recovery mode now and that you are soon to be feeling better.
Our trip to see the meteor shower was a bit of a bust last night. The spot we picked still had some light pollution. That, coupled with the lingering cloud deck left only a portion of the sky with stars. We each only saw one meteor. Still, we had a good time and it was a learning experience for me. I'll find an even darker spot next time. To get really dark, I will have to drive about 100 miles. Connie won't participate in that. 50 miles is about her limit for this type of adventure.
Today will be about rest.
Have a great day!0 -
Too bad about the light pollution. Meteor showers are pretty neat to watch.
Sadly, I threw away all the rendered tallow from the brisket today. No place to store, and probably shouldn't be eating the food that I would fry in it.
I did have a couple of cracklings from the renderings after they had cooled a bit. Good eats.0 -
Good Morning
Congratulations on the brisket Lee! We are starting to see them in the market more often with the growing popularity of smokers.
I was awake early for the Women's Basketball Finals this morning. It did not disappoint. After yesterday's Women's Soccer and Men's Basketball finals it was quite a weekend. I hope to track down the medal ceremony since I turned it off to do the Morning Office. I am looking forward to the closing ceremony. Then I go into Olympics withdrawal.0
