@Alatariel75
Thank you for the introduction and for checking out one of my challenges on Stridekick! I hope you find it helpful. Welcome to the team. I’ve been apart of MFP for a while—but apart of this team since January of this year. Though I’m not as active, I enjoy the weekly accountability to keep an eye on my weight and to learn more about myself and others.
Discussion Question: This week is a holiday in the US and the winter holidays are just around the corner. How do you plan for these events? How do you stay on track with all the friend's parties, work parties, and the actual holiday?
@lauren_989 I think your husband and my husband could be friends because he pretty much has a similar approach. He does not go “ham” during the holidays (literally and metaphorically 🤦🏾♀️). He limits himself to one plate on Thanksgiving.
For me—I gotta work a little harder as I’m totally on a “see food” diet at times.
If I can’t exercise self control, I try to leave it off the menu or from bringing it in my house. My goal this holiday season is to listen to hunger cues, drink water and track food. I’m also revisiting writing down my goals and reading them more often so I can increase the likelihood of acting in alignment with my values. This year, I’m trying to “question tradition” and ask myself do you enjoy the food/need the food. We typically do a honey baked ham around this time—but it’s something my husband or I don’t look forward to—and we force ourselves to eat because it’s there, expensive and there’s always left overs. Well-we opted to get extra honey baked turkey—because we enjoy that more. Also I purposely left the mini cheesecakes on sale at Costco.1 -
Hi team! Let's welcome back @conleywoods! 🙂2

Welcome @Alatariel75 and welcome back @conleywoods
Unfortunately after just getting back from visiting Brad's mom a couple weeks ago we got the call that her days with us are numbered.. we are at the airport waiting for a flight. So, not great days around here for Brad and I.
Hope all our US friends have a great Thanksgiving. I will check in when I can.3 -

I guess it is a loss
I've had a couple of worrying weeks!
As I mentioned before my money were really tight because my son needed help, but I would sell my souls as long as my boys are happy! Last week I did a lot of overtime at work and I also took my work holiday pot money out so I am in better place financially. Today I paid all the bills which is a load of my mind! I've had a few sleepless nights about that!
My lovely husband paid for most of the presents for family - which is great!
So today future looks a little happier and better
I will definately have great night sleep tonight!
I only have 2 resolutions for 2025!
* to log in here to our chat and confess and support you all
* to smash my debts as much as I can! I need to learn to have NO SPEND weeks, that is on things I dont need.
Fingerss crossed I'll have better weigh in on Sunday
Have a lovely Wednesday everyone!2 -
@StayFITTer – thank you for the welcome!
While I’m in Australia, I’m also a US citizen and my mom is from Iowa so we still celebrated Thanksgiving this week (though early, because no holiday for it here!) and I admit, I just ate what I wanted. But, I also didn’t go crazy, and because the weather was warm, we had salads instead of traditional sides.
December is going to be a challenge, and I’m trying to up my exercise to help out. I’m also keeping holidays to the specific day – none of this Xmas eating starts on the 21st!!
I do think having our holidays in Summer helps, salads and seafood are so tasty and low cal!
@ashleycarole86 – I’m so sorry to hear about Brad’s mom, caring thoughts coming your way.
@strong_fit_ells – a loss is a loss! I’m glad things are looking up for you – a good night’s sleep is a game changer!

@strong_fit_ells I'm glad things are turning around for you and you have less stress. That is always a great feeling!
@Alatariel75 That is weird to think that Christmas is in the summer for you! That is great you were able to eat salads as your sides.
Well today was CRAZY at work! I am so glad I was able to get everything done though and now have a 4 day weekend to enjoy I am supposed to do a 5k tomorrow, and I may have said this already, but it is now calling for rain and thunderstorms, and I'm not going to jog in that. I will do it on my treadmill! I hope everyone in the US has a great Thanksgiving!1 -

Hello! I'm excited to be back with the team. I see a lot of familiar people here plus some new faces. I took a break from weight loss and had a lot of life changes. This past spring I left a job that I had loved for many years. It just hadn't been the same for several years and I was ready for a change. I took a new job in my neighborhood school district where my husband teaches and my kids attend. I'm the only occupational therapy and it's a small district. I started at 3 days a week and just added a 4th day a few weeks ago. It is going so well and I love it. I didn't realize how toxic my previous job was until I left. I'm settled in now and things are coming together. The program needed a complete overhaul and I had no information from the previous team. My husband also switched positions and he is teaching his favorite grade level, first grade. The whole family is happy.
Now that my job change has happened and I'm settled in, I'm ready to focus on weight loss again. I have a lot less stress. My work commute is 15 minutes instead of an hour each way. I'm off work almost an hour earlier so I never miss kids sports and events. I have a bigger caseload at work but it's less demanding and I have a variety of students. I mostly saw medically fragile in my past job. I also like the cozy vibe of my small schools. Stress was such a big issue for me in the past. I'm hoping these changes will help me with weight loss moving forward.
@ashleycarole86 Thinking of you and Brad right now.2 -
Happy hump day!
@conleywoods welcome back!! glad to see your username pop up again, Kristi!
@lauren_989 really awesome loss this week! have fun with your 5K, even indoors!
@ashleycarole86 oh, so sorry to hear about your MIL. that's such tough news to get. sending hugs to you and Brad.
similar to Lauren, for a short work week, my job was driving me INSANE the last two days. I had such a good Monday, so it was bound to happen.... the universe likes to balance things out. But, I logged off sliiiightly early today, and I took a REALLY long walk by my standards these days - the intention was 60 min, but it ended up being 95min because of some errands I decided to get done at the same time. My feet were definitely feeling it by the end but not painfully so, which feels huge. This month marks 3 years since my foot tendonitis or whatever it really is, started, which feels crazy to say. Yay for steps to recovery (literally)!
Looking forward to a long, quiet weekend home. I am not traveling for Thanksgiving, but I am making a bunch of my favorite foods - cranberry sauce, potatoes au gratin, popovers with salted honey butter, a big maple roasted squash salad, and chicken thighs... TBD on how I want to cook the chicken. It might feel a little lonely but I have been traveling so much recently and my family at large is not doing a central get together this year anyways, I just didn't feel like getting back in the car was worth it. I am excited to not set any alarms tomorrow. And like @MaddawgMadsen ready to watch OUR Packers in the night game!! They better have a turkey leg for Jordan Love if we win, unlike last year... still mad at Greg Olsen for that one.0 -

Life is just sucking right now - will be better soon - I hope!
Mom is almost done chemo and they said radiation will not benefit her...but all margins are clear...so fingers crossed.
She is hard to be around because she is angry at the world and my brother is no help...he just *kitten* all the time about everything I don't do. Forgetting I have a family and another house to take care of...just gonna sit in the corner and cry for a while...2 -

This was a bit expected the day after Thanksgiving. Sorry, I've not been as active on the thread as I would have like. A lot going on with family right now.
December is right around the corner. Time for a fresh start.1 -
So I ended up making it to the race on Thanksgiving after all! There was a break in the rain and I said why not? I did eat more than I intended to yesterday, but not as much as I would have in the past! Now it's time to stay on track until Christmas 🙂
Today I am decorating for the holidays. I just finished putting up our tree, deocrations, and garland. 🎄

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Congratulations to all of you that stayed close to or below your PW. I ate way too much food yesterday. Every dish was so good. At least I'm back on track starting today so I expect my weight to go down by next Friday.
Also, today I'm taking down my fall decorations and putting up the Christmas tree and all the decorations. I'll definitely be getting my steps in today. Plus, a bonus...it was snowing all morning.
Have a great week everyone!

Welcome @tim_1383! We are excited to have you! Our December discussion post should open today, so feel free to introduce yourself on either thread!
I had a good morning so far. I got to the gym and walked a few miles (it was 26F when I woke up! Brrr!). Today is going to be a lazy day since I was so busy yesterday. I'm hoping to work on my crochet mini stockings for coworkers.
I also got right back on track for the last 2 days. Yesterday was a perfect day 🙂 I think this is the first ever holiday that I was able to eat just on the one day 🎉1 -
@lauren_989 that's a big win! Having a good day here too. I think this is my 4th straight day of taking a walk? Which feels HUGE for my foot. I might be getting too excited about these little signs of healing. Please let it stick!!
Getting through Thanksgiving leftovers in a measured way - the meal was not over the top so I think it will be a fairly "contained" weekend for me, calories-wise. Gotta up my water intake since I have definitely been drinking more the last 2 days. I also got entirely carried away by Black Friday deals, but I did get 2 presents for family members out of the way so that feels good! I don't spend a lot of money on myself throughout the year these days, so a little spree every few months feels fun.0
