Welcome to Snowy.
Chilly morn again, 18º today. Been getting up before dawn lately a lot. Time for some coffee and a wee breakfast...0 -
Mornin' gents.
19° here. Microburst blew the metal grill gondola off my elevated back deck last night. Made a huge racket, and I knew immediately what happened as I laid in bed. Right over the railing and over the gas grill, the gondola was standing over the pellet smoker on the other side of deck. Hanging utensils scattered all over the deck. I haven't inspected the damage to the gondola and I have no idea how I am going to get it back on the deck by myself.
I think I will need Mike to come help me with his piano mover thingy.
Wind is still blowing pretty good.
How did yesterday go for Joanne?
Onward and downward ;-)

Let's see... worked gov't accounting and auditing, raised a family, and gradually gained pounds along the way. Never exercised and at 50 had chest pains that doctor found to be main artery to left ventricle 95% clogged. "Widow-maker" the technician called it. Soon after had heart bypass surgery and went into outpatient rehab where they got me eating and exercising better. I got into hiking, joined WW, lost 47 lbs. and kept it off a good while, but eventually regained 35. Recently started losing again using elements of another program, "The Light Weigh" that I tried a few years ago. Wife divorced me in 2004, I retired in 2012 and besides kids and grandkids keep busy with outdoor activities -- canoeing, hiking, snowshoeing, xc-skiing, ice fishing -- and indoor hobbies. Lately learning to tune and repair pianos. I like to check in here every morning, although I forget sometimes. It's encouraging and sometimes inspiring to hear what the other guys are doing, I get a chuckle sometimes from the stories they tell, and we get to share our difficulties as well.
Church men's lodge meeting tonight. We're starting a "Biggest loser" contest again this year to coincide with Lent.
Very cold but I need to get out and walk more.0 -
Good morning!
I am a 64 y.o. recently retired accountant/small company controller who lives on the Kansas side of Kansas City. On December 29, my wife Connie and I celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary. Our oldest son was killed by a drunk driver in 2010. He was 2 weeks away from being 22. This group of friends here kept me sane. Our other son is 31 and lives with us. My wife retired in 2012 after 32 years of teaching English and Latin. I have struggled with losing weight. For years I was just north of 200 pounds. Last year I tried a program called BETR Health, and I lost over 20 pounds. I have been at 170ish since then. I still want to lose more weight. On December 2, I fell on some ice and broke a rib. I'm still working on recovery from that, but it is getting better. I'm into photography, and I want to get more into hiking. I have a Trek ebike that I don't ride enough, and I have a Kayak that I rarely get out in. Maybe this coming year since I'm retired now. I also have a 1971 Chevy C10 truck that I'd like to do more work on.
Have a great day!0 -
Good morning gentlemen.
Sort of fun to see the recounting of backgrounds from a group I have known so long. Like flipping through a photo album.
We got the last of the Christmas stuff just about put away, yesterday, finally. Rita still has rearranging and organizing to focus on. That process will never end.
More cool dry weather in the offing. Very unusual for January, when rain - or snow- is more the norm. Hope to finish that largish maple bowl this morning. Rita has some places she wants her chauffer to drive her this afternoon.0 -
Good Morning
"Like flipping though a photo album". Well said Dave.
Lee, Perhaps the gazebo was a sign that it is time to head to Colorado for good.
Heading to Eugene today to return a couple things to Home Depot and find a different bathroom mirror. The house is pretty much ready for all our stuff to be delivered. Empty boxes are collapsed and stored up high in the garage for sheet mulching the lawn when that time comes. POD comes tomorrow, the movers on Friday to unload it. Then the fun begins. Set up the beds, find the sheets and towels and shift our flag to our house. At some point we will have to call Rita to come down and get us organized.0 -
WOW Lee! Hangonto your hat. I was in a tent one time that got hit with part of a microburst one time in Idaho along the Middle Fork of the Salmon river. Broke tent poles for sure.
Good to see ya getting organized at the Oregon Coast Bill. Hope all is continuing to get better for you.
Hope folks are doing ok with the weather stuff.
Just mild-ish bland weather in the PacNW right now especially in PDX area.
Hanging in there.0 -
Gentleman, running late today as I woke up to five mini challenges, all fine now. Much thanks to everyone updating self information. It will help me get to know you and is very inspiring. I can relate to many similar things in my life and other things are quite new to me. I am very thankful to those who served our country!0
