Hi! I’m Karol and I’ve been a vegan since January 2020! Just hit 5 years this month!

I basically skipped vegetarian and went straight from eating meat and dairy one day to vegan the next day. Really my journey to veganism started with watching What the Health and Game changers. It was after those documentaries and a juice cleanse that pushed me to veganism.

I always say I am primarily vegan for my health, climate, and animal rights in that specific order.

I have never done calorie tracking, but I am on the journey this year to build muscle and lose a few less pounds to be within a healthy BMI. I’ve always had a BMI that was considered obese or super obese (since I was 10 years old) so I’m really trying to be more disciplined with my food intake. I hit 30 last year and am ready to enter my 30s in the best shape possible

Here for recipe inspo (I can only have so much chickpea salad in a week) and protein ideas

    Hi Karol

Sorry I've not visited this group chat for quite a long time, but wanted to say "hi!" if you're still checking in. Hope the calorie tracking is going ok and you're managing to fit in some strength training to build muscle.

Your journey to veganism is the almost the same as mine - literally overnight, meat to wfpb - but I had cut out dairy a number of years beforehand, which may have made it a little easier. Those documentaries were excellent at giving me the visual images in my head to stay true to the new way of eating though. They were very hard-hitting.

For me, the main health motivator was listening to the Brain Doctors on Instagram and Simon Hill, via his "The Proof" podcast called 'Keeping your brain healthy' (05/06/2023) as it was discussing Neuro diseases such as Dementia/Alzheimer's, as these diseases affect my family and eating a vegan diet can make a huge difference to inflammation within the body. Definitely worth a listen!

Anyway - welcome! Hope the MFP community has been helpful.
