So, tomorrow is my eye surgery (cataracts and vision correction). The docs said no lifting or exercise for one week. I’m not happy. But! All will not be forsaken on my journey! I spent the last two days grocery shopping and meal-prepping for the week ahead. Got my audiobooks and Spanish lessons downloaded. Miami weather has been stunning, so some easy strolls are also on the agenda. I’ll work on my tan lol. I’m ready!

Best wishes with your surgery @nancyinmiami! It sounds as though you’re prepared to make the best of your recovery time.

Notes:
~ nice to see the scale move back down. I’ve been babysitting my moms dog and she doesn’t like me on the treadmill, so besides my few trips around the neighborhood, I haven’t been able to get as many steps in as per usual
~ little dog is gone now ..very sad. Really empty nesting over here. I gave myself a “Yes-Day” for Wednesday, since I was under calories and so close to meeting my Move goal …only if the scale went down.. and it did

I’m trying to walk in the neighborhood more when I’m doing errands. Driving and parking doesn’t really save much time for local stops, and it’s nice to feel the fresh air. Here’s a red bud that seeded itself next to our old mulberry. The birds love the mulberry seeds!
This is the “parent” tree that seeded, with our neighbor’s maple tree behind it.
The cherry blossoms are just about finished, and the red buds are in bloom now. Years ago, we planted about six trees along the street near our house, but the trucks and cars damaged half of them. I’m enjoy the changes in nature.

I took the boys to a park we haven't been to before to switch up our walk a bit. It had a nice playground, but that doesn't really mean too much to us because of the boys' limitations. But I did let them swing for a bit though. The rest of the park was just okay. We managed to walk a total of 3 miles around the little lake and ball fields.
Anyway, they have physical therapy this afternoon. We'll try to squeeze in another shorter walk to the corner store at some point. And hopefully I'll get to the gym tonight, if my husband doesn't work too late.

@PatriceFitnessPal I love the colours in your photo
@Zaxa2021 they look so content in the wagon and swinging. I hope the rest of your day goes well

@PatriceFitnessPal Beautiful weather for the cherry Blossom Festival last weekend. I love the redbuds, sadly their blossoms don't hang around very long. I have an ornamental peach tree that's blooming, I'll see if I can get a picture. I think the high winds down nere in SOMD yesterday blew alot of the blossoms off. They definitely looked better yesterday, but still nice.

@Zaxa2021 The boys look so cute in the wagon! 💕

Hi everyone
Imy first weigh day tomorrow and I just have a feeling I haven't lost anything. I weighed a couple of days ago and I was down two pounds, but I've been lifting heavier the last couple of days and definitely retaining a little fluid. I just have a feeling I'll be letting the team down. Have gotten my calorie surplus almost down to goal calories. It definitely took a week, and longer, to learn where I could shave off calories. Also, I am quite active and genuinely feel hungry on my workout days. Trying to decide whether I should eat back those calories, but I didn't count them this week.
Anyway, off to bed! Hopefully tomorrow morning will feel like an achievement

Weigh In Day: Sunday
PW (Previous Weight): 211.2
CW (Current Weight): 214.5

I apologize for my tardiness! It's been a heck of a month already! My spouse and mother are BOTH getting eye surgery this month, and need all the doctor appointments associated with that. I had 2 vet appointments last month, and at minimum 4 this month. And of course, trying to toss in my own appointments (a yearly checkup, weekly appointment to control my conditions, a specialist appointment). I've had to bump my mammogram 3 months in a row. It's been horribly busy and chaotic here!
Add in coming down with bad viruses repeatedly, even with masking, and I am behind on… everything. Housework, calls, updating my resume, resuming exercise. Honestly, I've been doing a very bad job of taking care of myself. I haven't been taking my medicine properly (though at least I've been remembering to take it daily), and while I've been good about my vitamins (my IBS dumps part of the nutrition in my food), my food choices have been… less than stellar. I have been pretty erratic about drinking water; I either drink tons, or not enough, with no in between. I actually just downloaded a phone app to try and get me back on track. Since I've been sick so much, I've barely been moving, so not good.

I planned to walk to the library to return my book, but I had to join a couple of calls and meetings that were not on my calendar. So, I’ll have to walk more over the next few days to bring up my average, which is just a little less than 7,000 daily steps right now.

@morenin Holy cow! You DO have a lot going on! I'm exhausted just reading that. 😯 Please do try to find time to take care of yourself. You can't take care of everyone else if you are sick yourself. As the saying goes - You can't pour from an empty cup. Self care is not selfish.

A loss is a loss, certainly not cheating. I’m glad to hear you’ve had success with portions

Reflection
I'm disappointed to be starting the month with a gain. Especially after having such a good month in March. But I'm not going to stress about it and will try to do better next week.
I have started eating protein bars and shakes as easy, calorie controlled snacks. And I've also been hurting a lot. My knee and hip especially. I'm wondering if it's a reaction to the increase in dairy and/or sugar. I'm also wondering if I'm also a bit bloated. My mom has problems with her joints when she isn't strict on sugar consumption. I think she has issues with too much dairy. So I'm looking at changing my diet yet again. Less sugar, less dairy. Less short cuts.
I've had a bit of a mental block about the gym this week. I just didn't want to go. My gym is so busy, especially in the evening when I go. Sometimes I just don't feel like being around so many people. So I don't go. Lame excuse, I know. It's a lot slower on Friday nights, so I may be able to convince myself to go tonight.

Boy oh boy, did I need to have that weight loss this week! Especially since I can’t do much activity except walking for the next seven days. I am dictating this so I apologize for any errors lol. I can’t see the little keyboard on my phone. The surgery went well, but everything right now looks like I’m standing in a fogged up shower and things are flashing, which they tell me is totally normal. I go back for a follow up check up today. Lots of eye drops and a little bit of boredom, but I feel really good after seeing the scale this morning. I wasn’t sure I could read it right so I had my husband read it for me lol. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

I exercised more this week but the extra activity caused me to feel hungrier — I also didn’t make the best food choices after my workouts.
I’ll need to plan better so I don’t just reach for the most convenient food when I return from rowing. I’ll also make sure I don’t eat too late at night. Soccer meets later now because the organizers needed to fit all the youth programs into the schedule. On Tuesday night, I snacked on bread and cheese after our women’s pickup game.I’m already retaining some extra water for muscle repair so the extra cards don’t help. 😬. I’ll plan better in the future.
Best wishes and enjoy the weekend, Shape Shifters!

@morenin - This is a very busy time with so many appointments to manage! I agree with what others wrote, and encourage you to give yourself grace during this stressful period.
Once the surgeries are behind you, it will be easier to deal with the housework, etc.
Sometimes, I try to use housework as exercise by working quickly to add cardio, and intentionally engaging my muscles when bending, squatting, and lifting. Another idea is to chunk your projects and get a little done in the waiting room at each appointment. For example, update one section of your resume or make one call from the car while commuting (or step outside after arriving to your appointment to make one call, if it’s too distracting while driving?).
In the book Atomic Habits, I read that it can be helpful to attach a task you want to do with a task you already have to do. I’m hoping to use this technique more but it’s definitely a work in progress. You’ll figure out what works best for you. In the meantime, we’re all just doing the best we can, learning from our setbacks, and persevering through difficult times. Hang in there!
