fitbit charge 6 suddenly rolling back steps

My fitbit has been acting very odd the last few days. I try to walk 1-2K steps an hour. So I keep an eye on my fitbit, as I walk, checking it periodically, and when I have walked my piece for the hour, I will sit down. What's been happening (as I watch) is that then the fitbit will suddenly roll back steps, both on the device and on the app. I have seen it do this and it's really odd
Has anyone else experienced this, or know why it is happening?
