- How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. I have no idea how many total. They have always given me something to work towards and having a team is important in the fitness world
- What major city do you live in or near? Frankfort, State? Kentucky. Could you tell us a bit about where you live? I just moved her last fall from Helena, Mt where I was for 2 years. This is a beautiful area and I hope to explore more of it.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Lose 10 lbs. Start really working out again and getting back in shape.
- Do you like Summer? I don't know if I like summer. I am not fond of the humidity here with the heat. Why or why not? Even the horses are being kept in the barn due to the heat!
- What are your favorite Summer activities? Used to be hiking which I did every day until I moved to Montana and got sick
- What is your favorite type of Summer exercise? hiking
- Would you rather take a walk, garden, or clean the house? garden
- What always cheers you up? finishing a good days work on a project.
- Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? strength training is more important as you get older!
- Please share two fun things about you. I am a retired naval officer. I have hiked in many European countries and the next one is Greece next June.
- Is there anything else you would like to share? 3 years ago I was pretty active on these teams. I got pulmonary emboli in both lungs when I moved to Montana and my activity was just the farm work. I gained 20 lbs and I want them all gone because I did not buy new clothes!!!

Years’ worth, have never made the 5% goal, but would be worse off if I wasn’t on here.
What major city do you live in or near? State? Could you tell us a bit about where you live?
Wasilla, Alaska It is 50 miles from Anchorage, was a lot smaller when we moved up here in 2006. We’re not normal in the sense that we went North instead of South when Hubby retired.
What are your health/fitness goals for this season?
Stay out of the hospital! I was in March 2023 and August 2024. I want to take the year off from my “second home”.
Do you like Summer? Why or why not?
Yes and no. I like the warmer weather and being able to garden, even though our season is very short. I don’t like the extra people (no offense to tourists, but eight out of twelve months of the year, it’s pretty quiet).
What are your favorite Summer activities?
Gardening and spending more time outdoors with the animals.
What is your favorite type of Summer exercise?
Yardwork – three acres makes for a lot of it!
Would you rather take a walk, garden, or clean the house?
Walk, but because of my last two hospital stays, I’m limited to what I can do. Gardening is a close second.
What always cheers you up?
My pets and my family, usually in that order. I know my blood pressure would be a lot higher without my cats.
Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share?
Not really. I do what’s right for me, even if it’s not the “norm”. If I’m not healthy, my family suffers.
Please share two fun things about you.
I have a memory that annoys my husband – I forget NOTHING! He wishes I would. And no matter what goes on, I will read at least 50 pages of a book a day. My youngest inherited that trait from me, but in her case, she usually reads a book in two days.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
Here’s hoping for a good summer! I will be gone for a week, but will be posting numbers on my phone every day. And I will be getting on a place for the first time since I moved up here July 2006. Needless to say, I’m a bit nervous, but I’ll have my seasoned traveler daughter with me, so I should be okay.

- How did you learn about the 5% Challenges? In 2023 I came across the 5% challenge that was just about to start when I was looking to lose weight - so I joined!
- How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. I think this will be number 4 - I have found the structure really helpful and lost almost 50lb. Its also raised my awareness of more healthy eating habits and pushed me to move more. I work full time and I find finding the time for exercising challenging.
- What major city do you live in or near? State? Could you tell us a bit about where you live? I live just outside Liverpool in the UK.
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? To get back into the better habits I had established. I had to move from my house while I had some renovations done for about 6 months and that was long enough for me to lose control. I'm not back to square one, but its a reminder of how quickly the weight can creep back on when you are not paying attention.
- Do you like Summer? Why or why not? I prefer Autumn - I don't like too much heat!
- What are your favorite Summer activities? Pottering in the garden

- Please share two fun things about you. I’ve listened to the same radio station since I was 8yrs old I’m 74yrs now. I like the outdoors
- Is there anything else you would like to share?I semi-retired in 2015 to watch my then 4yr old grandson (14 now). I work part-time EVERY fri & sat 3rd shift since 2005 and when they need me to fill in during the week. Take friends and neighbors to where they need a ride to or pick up things for them
FYI: If my posting sometimes confuses anyone this is why: I try my best to go over what I write to add words I leave out. I'm dyslexia, found out a few years ago I’m ADD slight HD. I spell phonically, and I even confuse Word with my spelling sometimes when typing.

6. What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Get my weight down past what is was when I relocated here.
7. Do you like Summer? Why or why not? Yes. It gets hot but I enjoy coming out at night and taking a walk in the cool.

- How many 5% Challenges have you completed? Please share some of the "Wins" that keep you coming back. I’m not exactly sure. I did at least 5-7 when first transferring over to MFP with my last one being in 2022. I also did many in SparkPeople. So I’d guess this is approximately my 12th-ish 5% challenge. Summer 2025 will be first challenge back in a while. Some of my “Wins” in past challenges have been learning the Healthy Habits and being part of this positive community who is motivating and encouraging. I believe that I’ve only lost the full 5% once or twice, but I have definitely lost some weight and inches, plus felt a lot healthier after past challenges and am looking forward to that again.
- What major city do you live in or near? State? Could you tell us a bit about where you live? Lansing, Michigan– Lansing is the capitol of Michigan, and near the campus of Michigan State University (East Lansing). If you’ve ever met anyone from Michigan, we tend to use our hands as a map reference. Lansing is close to the middle of the "mitten", right under the middle finger knuckle. It has a great combination of a small city/downtown area as well as many parks/natural areas and country farms. Because we are in the center of the state you can get to many different areas with a 90 minute car ride like the Great Lakes, “Up North", Detroit & Grand Rapids and even Ohio,Indiana and Canada.Â
- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? Healthy Eating Habits, Consistent Exercise, & Stress Management
- Do you like Summer? Why or why not? Summer is nice for the long days and family events, but I don’t tend to like the heat & humidity much. So far, this summer has been too hot for my liking. I’d much prefer 70 degree days. I love fall best!
- What are your favorite Summer activities? Spending time with family & friends at BBQs, on hikes, and bonfires
- What is your favorite type of Summer exercise? I do like to swim, but I don’t do it often. I also like to go for walks and/or hikes, but only when it’s not too hot.Â
- Would you rather take a walk, garden, or clean the house? Oddly, I think I like to clean the house. I find it generally therapeutic and feel success getting something accomplished. With that said, I don’t like dishes or laundry too much, probably because they are never ending with a family of 4.Â
- What always cheers you up? Dinner and hanging out with friends
- Do you have a diet or fitness tip to share? Portion size is everything. A swear a number of years ago during a summer, when I lost the most weight (~50 lbs) as an adult that I ever had, I ate ice cream every night. BUT, what I made sure I did was buy a low calorie ice cream and only filled a small teacup instead of a large bowl. So portion size and a balanced diet (along with exercise) has worked great for me instead of “cutting out” certain foods.Â
- Please share two fun things about you. (1) I have visited 20 states + DC so far and plan to visit all at some point in my life, and (2) I have been an educator for over 20 years.Â

- What are your health/fitness goals for this season? - To sleep better, feel better in my body, and have more energy (the weight loss will be an added benefit).
- Do you like Summer? Why or why not? - Yes and no. Summer in the southeast is brutal. It is way too hot to do anything outside for my taste.

- What is your favorite type of Summer exercise? - I don't know. Before I moved from So Cal, it was walking outside in the evening… since moving out here, I have yet to find one.
