***************************JOEL AND A PLAGUE OF LOCUSTS*******************************************

What the gnawing locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; and what the creeping locust has left, the stripping locust has eaten. Joel 1:4

Joel's words could provide a great plot line for a sci-fi thriller. The worst thing about this plague is that it seemingly came upon the people without warning and was more devastating than anything they'd ever witnessed. Other catastrophes would follow. (Joel 1:1-7)

The apostle Peter explained Pentecost in light of Joel's prophecy: " 'This is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: "And it shall be in the last days," God says, That I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit and they shall prophecy. And I will grant wonders in the sky above, And signs on earth beneath,...Before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come. And it shall be, that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved" ' ". (Acts 2:16-21)

The information contained in the book of Joel is referred to as eschatology, or a study of the end of times, and parallels other passages in Scripture. When Jesus spoke to His disciples He too quoted the prophetic passage, providing additional clarity.

PRAYER
Lord, I rejoicein Your Word: " 'But immediately after the tribulation ...... the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, ..... and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the clouds of the sky with power and great glory' " (Matthew 24: 29-30)
