New to group

Hi everyone! I just recently joined this group and this is my first time posting. I’m not sure how this group works yet. A little about myself. I am 61 years old and I am from NM. Growing up, I was always lean. It wasn’t until I moved out of state for the first time that I started gaining weight. In the past, I did try a few weight loss programs such as, weight watchers, Jenny Craig…etc but nothing worked. Over ten years ago, I started experiencing severe lower spine pain and was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. Over the years, I developed osteoarthritis in pretty much my entire body, bursitis in my hips and had a total knee replacement on my right knee. My pain has been chronic and more severe. I’m 61 but feel and walk like I’m 100! I was recently diagnosed with Prediabetes and I am also clinically obese. My doctor told me that in order to prevent type 2 diabetes, I need to lose weight and change my eating habits. Since I do suffer from such severe pain, it’s literally impossible for me to exercise, even walking in my apartment causes me pain. My doctor recommended water therapy so I signed up at a gym that has water exercise classes. I love them! Being in the water is the only time I am pain free! I have also incorporated the Mediterranean diet way of eating into my life. I also joined something called “fruit street”, which is for people who are prediabetic. I downloaded their app and from there I am able to attend zoom meetings every Saturday morning with a licensed nutritionist/dietician. There are five other ladies in our group. When you join, they send you their own scale to weigh yourself on and that information gets sent directly to the app so you and your coach can track your progress. All in all, I have made many changes in my life! I’m going to post my first weigh in number here, along with my current weight and total loss. If I do it wrong, please let me know. Also, I am very sorry this is so incredibly long!

Welcome to Fat2Fit! This group has five teams. I don't see that you've been added to any team yet. That's probably because you've posted here instead of on the Registration for NEW Members - August 2025 thread, so your presence was probably missed. That thread is now closed, but reading it will give you a good idea of how this all works. You might need to wait until September to get started, unless @lauren_989 can add you for August (we're half way through week 2 of a 4-week month).
You will find lots of people here who will encourage and support you in your efforts to improve your health. It sounds like your off to a good start in your diet and exercise. I hope you can stick to your plan. You'll probably have good days and bad days, as most of us do, but don't let yourself get discouraged. It's a long journey toward better health, but well worth the trip.
