Okay...
We are going to work on one of my big problems...but I don't think I will be lonely...
It's Selfish Moderator Thursday! (IT'S a thing...look it up...while you do that, the rest of us will get on with it...)
CALLING ALL SODA FIENDS!
You are to ration yourself to ONE CAN (355/12oz) of your chosen calcium leeching agent.
I learned how soda, particularly highly acidic soda like colas, leeches calcium from the bones by lowering the body's PH.
Turns out, a machine as complex as a human body can only operate within a very narrow range of PH. Who knew? Just one more way I have violated the warranty in the past.
So today we are going to treat all carbonated beverages like they were concentrated sulfuric acid and limit our consumption to one, perfectly chilled, and long anticipated can of evil Wonderful, nasty Refreshing, addictive, expensive, crap.
Chill the can. Pick the hour. Stick to your resolve.
I am down to two most days...three on bad days...and I haven't had more than one or two days that bad all summer. I am going to struggle cutting down to one. Even for just a day to prove to myself that I CAN do it...
So I started by taking the half empty case of cans of soda out of the fridge except for The One. Then I put that One cold can of soda in an awkward and out of sight spot (where I actually found another can that had rolled there in the eighties to judge by the labeling and um...rust. (This week's pantry challenge at least got me to clean out the fridge!:embarassed: )
The next step was to make sure that ice cold water was abundant and prominently placed in my fridge's limited zone of convenience--I am very tall, the fridge is a bit short, that zone is quite limited. But it is full of cold water.
This is my plan for tackling the challenge...what about you? You up for it?
Feel free to substitute coffee, cigarettes, or any counter-productive crutch for soda, if you have already tamed your Soda Fiend.
Good logging and good luck!

Sigh. Tomorrow is date night and since we don't keep soda in the house this *usually* means I drink glass after refreshingly horrible glass of soda.
Instead, I will order iced tea.0 -
Good challenge, since I make my own homemade soda I will have the small (500ml) bottle instead of the litre bottle of my homemade-fizz of choice and stick to water for the rest. And I will make it cherry which is just concentrated black cherry juice0

Excellent challenge! I gave up soda a long time ago. My nemesis is coffee and black tea. Like soda, these two liquid crutches rob your body of PH balance as well. Also, I have been accused of enjoying "coffee flavored" cream and sugar. Ha! Ha! I like it sweet, light, and hot!
Now I drink green tea, no sweetener and when I need a treat I fix myself a small pot of Harney & Sons Paris tea or their Chocolate/coconut black tea. I add Florida crystals sugar and almond milk.
I have been doing some PH/Alkaline/Acid body balance research as well Mark. It is very interesting and frightening. I am trying to follow some of the rules. My body feels better when I put the good stuff in it, but my mind and taste buds love cupcakes and cappuccino!0 -
This is stuff I didn't know about, and it was interesting to hear about. I thankfully checked in the morning because it was my weigh in and seen this! Tonight I am going to dinner with a bunch of ladies so I left all my cans of pop at home and brought my water bottle so I can enjoy a diet coke tonight with dinner which will make me feel a part of the soda drinkers
I look forward to reading the success if I can do it so can anyone0 -
I know you can do it Holly! We BOTH can! Good luck to everybody who is going to give it their best shot today!0

I don't really have a soda fiend, but I do enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine a few times a week. So today I just won't have a drink, I'll drink water instead0

Way to take up the challenge Malia!
Okay...it's still about an hour until bedtime...but it looks like I have pulled it off. I had ONE can of diet cola with my lunch, and water the rest of the day!
PLUS I spent the entire evening training a dog. I had no idea it took so much energy to train a dog. But no time for cola if one is chasing after a frisky pup!0 -
I made it! The only soda I had was with my dinner and it was so worth it!!!0
