THE APPLE OF GOD'S EYE

For the day of the Lord draws near on all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you. Your dealings will return on you own head. Then the house of Jacob will be a fire and the house of Joseph a flame; but the house of Esau will be as stubble. And they will set them on fire and consume them, so that there will be no survivor of the house of Esau," for the Lord has spoken. Obadiah 1:15,18

Obadiah is such a tiny Old Testament book that you've probably overlooked it. Yet there are prophecies and promises for Israel here which can't be missed.

Israel, the people G had chosen, began to feel so overconfident that they considered themselves invincible. But it wasn't this choosing which made them special. Instead, it was the protection of God that rendered them unique as a people. Now their arrogance and lack of true worship rendered them vulnerable to attack. Obadiah calls Israel back to worship their God, but also issues a warning to Edom, the nation intent on wiping them out.

Scholars have divided opinions as to whether this intent is referring to the time when the Philistines and Arabs invaded Jerusalem in 853-841 B.C., or during the Babylonian sieges, between 605 and 586 B.C. Closing the gap on this date is much less critical than hearing the message.

PRAYER----Lord, let me remember that it is Christ who is the head if His Church and I am but a member of the Body.
