WANTED: SAINTS, DEAD OR ALIVE?

Those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who is in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. 1 Corinthians 1:2

Car statues are what's happening in the Midwest. I'd forgotten all about them until a few months ago when I traveled back to my roots in Missouri and Illinois.

We might call these statues "saints," but who are the saints to whom Paul addresses this first letter of Corinthians? How about real, live, walking, talking people who "call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ" as their Lord and Savior! (1 Corinthians 1:2)

As Christians, we've not only been "called into fellowship with His Son," but Christ "shall confirm us to the end, blameless" as we stand before His throne at the conclusion of our earthly lives (1 Corinthians 1:8-9). Does this intimate that because we belong to Christ we're perfect here on earth? Absolutely not! It just means that because God is faithful, He looks at us and sees the blood of His Son and declares us cleansed from sin.

These Corinthians, whom Paul addressed as saints, were far from model citizens, but he wasn't ashamed to call them brothers. "Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree, and there be no divisions among you, but you be and complete in the same mind and in the same judgement" (1 Corinthians 1:10).

PRAYER----Lord, Am I truly Your disciple?
